I'm looking for a verse and or teaching that says the Jews were not to marry outside the race. It's been twisted to say blacks should not marry whites and so on but I canot remember where it was at. Help scholars!

Could you perhaps be thinking of a passage like Deuteronomy 7.1-5?
1 "When the LORD your God brings you into the land which you go to possess, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you, 2 and when the LORD your God delivers them over to you, you shall conquer them and utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them. 3 Nor shall you make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to their son, nor take their daughter for your son. 4 For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods; so the anger of the LORD will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly. 5 But thus you shall deal with them: you shall destroy their altars, and break down their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images, and burn their carved images with fire."
If those are the verses you were thinking of, it would take a huge amount of twisting tomake them mean that blacks and whites cannot marry.

Thank you thank you sir. The comment is usually made off handed by someone that is trying to justify there racism and has probably never opened a bible. Thank you for looking that up.

Segregation was taught as biblical in evangelical seminaries even into the early 60's, based on the three sons of Noah; Ham, Shem and Japeth, as representing the world's races. I am not saying I support segregation, but did for years as being biblical. I went South in 1960 with the Civil Rights movement, and spent 3 days in an Alabama gaol for walking down the street with a "negro". It was much later that South Africa and the Dutch Church removed segregation.

    Cheers,

    Jim

God NEVER prohibited marriages due to "skin color", but HE did and does say that "mixed marriages" were not to be done berween saved and unsaved peoples, between those who worshipped Yahweh/Jesus, and those following "false gods"

Also think the FALSE idea that the Black peoples were cursed by God with curse of ham had a lot to due with Bible being misused to propagate prejudice!

    2 Corinthians 6:14
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
I have seen many use this verse for the black and white issue too.

Genesis 9: 20 And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:
21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.
22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.
24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.
25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
26 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

Some took the cursing here as all the descendants of Ham of which those which have a darker hue are descended from. But if you look at verse 25 it was only Canaan and his descendants that were cursed.

Deut. 20:17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:
18 That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the LORD your God.

The Israelites were to utterly destory the inhabitants of the land incuding the Canaanites.

The curse was to be completed on the decendents of Canaan as they turned into a wicked people. But notice the African peoples were not of this people and the verse was taught incorrectly in using it to justify slavery and the discrimination of the darker hue peoples.

Any Gentile who was circumcised and worshipped God with the Hebrews was to be accepted and loved as a Hebrew. It wasn't about race; it was about worshipping God.

Hello drfuss. That is just what I meant when I ended my earlier post: "it would take a huge amount of twisting to make them mean that blacks and whites cannot marry." (I'm assuming you were replyiong to me, as you quoted my post in full).
