We do not celebrate this event, but we are using a home in our community to have an outreach to the kids in the area and we are celebrating Reformation Day with other reformed churches.

On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 thesis on the door at Wittenburg thus beginning the Reformation. Many churches in our circles combat Halloween with a celebration of the doctrines that were essential to the Reformation.

No celebrations per se, but we have a huge trunk or treat program. A dozen or so members load the trunks of their cars with treats and line them up in the church parking lot. Hundreds of kids come by and help themselves to treats out of the trunks. Each individual bag of treats will have a Bible verse and one car will have a supply of attractive brochures, appropriate to children, inviting them to church. It's something that caught on a few years ago and gets bigger each year.

October 31 is NOT a holiday. It's simply a pagan celebration that, in my opinion, Christians shouldn't celebrate since people dress up like witches, the devil, ghosts (which don't exist), and all kinds of monsters and gory creatures. I don't pass out candy at that time.

We had a fall festival. It was used more for outreach than anything else.

Halloween, or All-Hallow's Eve is the evening prior to All Saints Day, a holiday celebrated in the Roman Catholic Church and several other Christian traditions.

You are correct. The Catholic holy day of All Saints Day and All Souls Day is the origin of Halloween which comes from the old English word Hallow which means "holy". Likewise the word "Holiday" comes from the Catholic traditional use of the word "Holy Day".

Christmas is another Catholic tradition. In the early centuries the "Mass" of Christ was celebrated in Catholic Churches and over the centuries it became Christ's Mass and eventually Christmas.

My church has no celebrations for Oct 31.

I will pass out candy to anyone that comes to my door Monday night. I have M&M's and Reese's cups.

No. We usually have a Fall Fest/ Jesus Jubilee /carnival (like a school carnival...not a mardi gras carnival) out in our parking lot and invite all the local children and families.

It has actually been a good outreach in that last year, because of it, we met two people in need, witnessed to them and they made a profession of faith and are now members.

They have a Fall Festival, but I have never participated. Have a real problem with the festival. Never let my son " Trick or Treat."
Would like to recognize " Reformation Sunday" at the church, but they wouldn't appreciate the historical significance of it.
