They made it one. Do they not constantly cry about get the govt out of the way so business may prosper? Are you not up on current events? This is a case where food safety regs are lacking. China killed American dogs with tainted food, sold us toys painted with lead, and now smuggle tainted honey into our food supply. Are they not a potential enemy who could use our lack of regulation to poison us? Are not American beekeepers put out of work by this? Yes the TP is wrong!

Is it the Tea Party's fault, or is it the FDA's for allowing tainted honey onto the shelves?

And since the FDA is overseen by the DHHS, and the head of that agency is a cabinet position, doesn't the buck ultimately stop at Obama's desk?

Please point out any Tea Party member that has called for less regulations when it comes to food safety.

One thing the article didn't clarify was how they determine the origin of the honey simply by noting it has pollen in it. Is the article hinting that the FDA should test all honey for pollen content? If so, what's to stop the Chinese from smuggling in honey with pollen in it? This was a piece of shoddy journalism.

There are already regulations concerning food safety that apparently are not being enforced.

    What would another regulation do?

My wife and I are huge supporters of local farmers. Living near Polyface Farms, we are proud to have a myriad of good local farms that we support.

When my wife read articles on the honey, it did not impact our decisions. Being wise consumers, we have been selective in the honey we choose, electing for the local honey over the store bought honey.

Yet, I am against making more regulations on the honey industry. The results almost always negatively impact local farmers. They often require local farms to meet new national standards, cutting into their profits. Large corporate farms can easily afford the new regulations, but the local farmers have more difficulty in absorbing the additional costs. American corporations, who are no better than the Chinese produced honey, merely wish for tighten regulations to limit competition and squeeze out the local farmer.

The issue with filtering the pollen out, has little to do with safety. There are no recorded instances of health safety problems from honey sources.

While I am for better import inspections for out of country food sources, adding regulations only hurt our small country farmer in the United States which will drive up cost, provide a less organic source of honey, and prop up big business.

We might need more of the right kind of regulations and the elimination of the wrong.

IMO many newer regulations (and a lot of the old) are not motivated by the needs of "we the people" but the power struggle of "us the bureaucracy".

A very disingenuous OP, MP. Just shows a depth of your misunderstanding of the tea party's makeup and purpose.
