What really needs to happen is that consumers nation wide need to stage a revolt and refuse to tip any wait staff. Let the businesses pay wages to their own employees.

    Nope. It's cruel and hypocritical.

If I were ever to leave a tract with a waiter, I don't like tracts, I would leave a substantial (25%+) tip.

Why? All that would do is drive up the cost of the meal.

We have tracks that we hand out that say Thank You on the front and have the gospel inside. I always tip 20% of the total ticket and stick it inside of the track. Simply leaving a track and no tip is a poor witness and dishonest.

You are going to pay it on one side or the other. I'd rather have all the cost inclusive in the meal. There's no reason for me to pay wait staff directly. I go to a restaurant for a meal, not to pay wages to their employees.

The purpose in this is to motivate the wait staff to provide better service.

No, I've never done that. It's deplorable. I don't like tracts either.

Tracts fall short of paying the bills for a waitress or waiter and otherwise upset them beyond belief.

If you're going to leave a tract stuff it with a healthy tip first.

I spent 14 years in the restaurant business and it is a unique career to say the least. If you've never worked in a restaurant you should try it sometime. Discover what it's like from their end of the table.

"For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake."
A tract may catch someones attention, but you are there. You are Gods mouthpiece. Preach the Gospel in season and out. Unless you are embarrassed, a tract does little for the Kingdom.

The business should pay them a wage and fire anyone that doesn't provide a high level of service. I don't need to motivate them...it's their job!

    Matt,
If you feel so strong about the amt a waitress makes, then start a new thread!

This op is about Christians who leave a tract and no tip

With your beliefs, you would feel very much at home in Germany

and now back to the OP

TIP originally meant "time in personal service". The server is rewarded for their time given to the client.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Then go eat at fast food. If you don't want to pay the tip then don't go to restaurants that follow the industry standard. But knowing that is what is expected and going to those type places and not doing it is dishonest.

I'm with ya. Most end up as landfill anyway.

Edited to add: Here in the USA, anyway. In other countries it is different.

Did I say that I didn't tip? I simply stated that I'd like to see the system change. I recommended a method by which we could attempt to change the system. With the method I recommended, the employer would be required to make sure the wait staff received at least minimum wage.

I don't understand why you are so hostile about the subject. I'm simply expressing my desire to do something differently that we currently do. I seriously doubt it would ever happen and so I'll obviously continue to tip the wait staff that serve me.

Where did tracts start anyway? I see little value in them, but I also see the possibility. If you are handing someone a tract, you are physically there. Why wouldn't you pray for them and speak the gospel?

I think, come payday it would be just reward if the so called tipper received a phony pay check in the same order.

I have met those type of people, they are the ones who feel like they should just eat their meal and not pay for the establishment's waitstaff. They are also the loudest to complain when a restaurant includes a 15% tip to the bill. (this is stated on the menu)
