So, are you saying that we should not talk about the character of political candidates? Are you saying that a person who is an adulterer and who has continually violated ethical standards should not be rejected based upon Psalm 130? I think that is a misrepresentation of this verse. Yes, if God marked iniquity none of us would stand. However, if you want to make a case on a person's character for a determination on whether he should take the highest office in the world, then we need this disclosure. Republicans are not doing their job. Newt's character is horrendous.

If you are advocating we should ignore character for our selection, then you are going against the Biblical standards for leadership too. Character is essential to leadership and the first quality each of us should use in choosing our next President.

If from sensitive sources, I would think she would have to be careful on what she devulged.

(they're all a bunch of lawyers anyway, I'm sure she'll have her bases covered when she does cut loose)

Gingrich doesn't seem to be too worried about it.

He is calling it "an early Christmas present".

There is already a public report on the findings of the ethics investigation.

All Pelosi can do is violate the ethics code by revealing the actual proceedings.

In doing so she will be demonstrating how political the ethics committee is and opening herself up to ethics violations charges.

It would probably cost her seat on the committee.

I do not know how much the lady has to expose on Newt that is new. But there is quite a bit of info. out there on him already that is not flattering. She is not the only 'lady' he has had affairs with. Great family values man, isn't he?

    1. He had an affair with the Congressional staffer, Callista Bisek, that was going on when he began the investigation of Clinton for obstruction of justice in the Lewinsky affair.

    2. The Hose reprimanded him for ethical violations in 1998 and ordered him to pay $300,000. This was the first time in US history that a speaker of the house was disciplined for ethical violations.

    3. Special Counsel James M. Cole found that Gingrich had violated violated federal tax law and had lied to the ethics panel in an effort to force the committee to dismiss the complaint against him. The full committee could nor or would not agree on whether federal tax law had been violated.

    4. New dodged the draft during the Vietnam era through family and student deferment and yet he is a war hawk and does not mind sending others sons and daughters to war.

    5. It was discovered that Newt bounced 22 checks during the House Banking Scandal investigation.

    6. Newt's GOPAC set up the "Abraham Lincoln Opportunity Foundation," to help inner city kids. A great idea. But then took their money away to help Newt in his political campaign in 1990. Newt also set up a tax-exempt group to pay poor kids for reading books. Another great idea and one he bragged about. But after two years that foundations money was directed to Mel Steely who was a former Gingrich aide but was now his official biographer.

There are probably other sleazy doings by Newt that the public is not aware of.

FWIW we all need to remember that in the political realm and the office of the president we are dealing with the rulers of this world not the chaplain-in-chief.

Being a Christian political candidate does not necessarily require a Christian's vote.

Jimmy Carter was a born-again Christian but he never did get my vote.

    Hank,

You can do what you want, but you never answered the issue. Are you implying that we should not consider a person's character when voting for them? Are you implying that character issues are out of bounds because all people are sinners?

You can do whatever you want, but if you are implying this then you have seriously taken these verses out of context and embraced a very post-modern view of morality and character.

Just wondering, is it only the conservatives of whom you demand faultless perfection, or do you apply the same standard to leftists? Because, compared to practically any Democrat, Newt is an angel.

Aaron, I am a conservative; therefore, I do place more priority on candidates that may identify with me.

As well, I am not asking for sinless perfection. Reading my post clearly shows I am talking about his character. An adulterer and a man with a myriad of ethics violations is not a candidate I want. Newt's character is the issue. WOuld you not agree that his character is highly questionable if not definitely horrendous?

I supported the impeachment of Clinton and I opposed Gary Hart after the "Monkey Business" fiasco. As well, I have never voted for a democrat for president. However, Newt's character is horrendous

So, are you telling me by your post that character should not be an issue?

Repeated but expanded premise: Do what you believe is right using those criteria from whatever source you wish Ruiz as I will.

Yes, it is repeated, but after your questions that I answered, I pose those questions to you to get your philosophy on this issue. Let me try again. Is adultery a character issue? Should this character issue be used to judge someone's worthiness in office and who you should vote for?

A simple answer and rationale is all I am after. It appears you believe adultery is either not a character issue, it is not an important character issue, or character issues are not important.

I believe that character should be judged, adultery is a vital character issue, and Newt has violated these issues. This is clear and simple. Don't go after my views and then refuse to answer simple questions about your own on this topic. If you don't like mine, stand up and defend your own views. Don't retreat into post-modernistic responses. That is neither dialog nor constructive. I answered your post, defended my belief, and advanced it by asking you simple questions. You have a problem with answering these questions?

No, I'm telling you to use the same weights when measuring all the candidates. When you do, even Newt tips the scale more toward liberty and justice than any Democrat.

I never said I would vote for Obama. To me, if Newt was the Republican, I would vote for him because I think murder of babies is a more important issue. However, I cannot believe people are actually defending Newt. Why in the world would we want Newt as the nominee?

Just another reason I left the Republican Party.

Open your eyes. Look around. If you were on the Titanic, would you be this picky concerning the man driving the lifeboat?

With Newt's ethical and moral track record he would probably yell, "The lifeboats are on the other side" as he threw people out of the one he wanted for himself ... alone.
