Telling Jokes about Jesus

    This thread is not about telling a funny joke.

    We all enjoy telling a funny joke - in fact we have a full forum for good clean jokes.

    but what about jokes that have Jesus Christ as part of the joke or punch line.

    for example -

    Q) When did Jesus get rich
    A) When he made a bunch of bread with the 5,000!

    Now, on one hand - it could be considered funny - but is it sacrilegious to tell such jokes.


    How about if someone made a joke about Christ dying on the cross - the nails, the throne, ect.

    Is there a line we should not cross? ​

    My personal opinion is that any joke involving any Member of the Trinity is crossing the line and is insulting to Him by its lack of reverence.

    I viewed the video of SNL (NBC) on Utube RE; Tim Tebow and it definitely crossed the bounds of entertainment.

    Im my opinion, ANY joke with Jesus in it is 100% inapropiate.

    1) emptiness, vanity, falsehood
    a) emptiness, nothingness, vanity
    b) emptiness of speech, lying
    c) worthlessness (of conduct)

    If a joke of Jesus is "in vain" than wouldnt all jokes even if not about Christ be "in vain"?

    Salty....

    The sin mentioned in Exodus.....is about God in particular.

    There is speech and jokes that are ...vain speaking,and vain thoughts .....yes.

    1.Psalm 119:113

    2.Jeremiah 4:14
    O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?

    We have to examine our thoughts and speech...we all sin in this way.
    is all joking,sin??? I do not think so..however....I do not see it spoken of that often either.....do we have to examine our hearts here ...yes..

    I like to joke,and have joked about things...but I have been examining it more the last few years....

    A sweet little old lady stood outside a grocery store handing out bible tracts. As I approached the door she stopped me, held out the tract an asked "Excuse me sir, but have you ever made a decision for Jesus?" I replied respectfully " No mam! I think Jesus can make His own decisions."

    Yes I totally agree. Having fun and laughing is great, but using God to do so is out of order. If you notice there are no jokes in scripture using God as the jester. Jokes about or using God as the backdrop or what some think as witty replies at the expense of God do not reverence Him and unless we are reverencing Him when we speak about Him we are using His name in vain..

    Jesus is to be praised and worshiped--not made the brunt of jokes, and His name certainly should not be used as profanity. I hear that often on the TV and turn the show or TV off.
