It's four days until Christmas, and I can't believe there are no threads on BB about Santa, thought I would stir the pot a little. :saint:

I agree that any Christian that promotes or even allows their children to believe in santa is very foolish as they promote the idea that a lie is permissible as long as it brings momentary pleasure. There is no doubt that there is pleasure in sin for a season, but the consequences can be eternal.

I never lied to my daughters or encouraged them to believe in Santa. My dad would have made a great politician; he was a pathological liar. While I realize that children need their "pretend" time as they mature, but that doesn't mean we as parents should lie to them and and say such foolish things as "Santa won't bring you any toys for Christmas if you're not good." Santa allegedly has God-like attributes in that he can see everything every child does on earth and "knows who'd been bad or good." Attributing such abilities to a made-up creature makes him equal to God.

(tinytim comes in in a santa costume.... singin)... It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.... (stops... looks around... realizes he's in a room full of grinches darts out the door to find some Christmas Spirit......)

And as he leaves, he is overheard saying....

Merry Christmas to all.. and .... oh, nevermind, legalists will never get it!....

    ROFL....

Come on guys, it's Christmas!.. lighten up...

HEY, go get you some Egg nog...

OR, OR... find a woman (or man) and wave some mistletoe above their head... I guarantee you won't be worrying about this crazy debate that's on BB every year....

Santa Claus is the Spirit of Christmas... No wonder the world thinks we're a bunch of koooks... because some are!....

    Merry Christmas!!!!

Been lookin around for some Christmas Spirit myself lately and all I see is commercialism. Spent the last few days looking for odds and ends gifts for my wife and noticed that a lot of stores have allready marked Christmas stuff down 30% to 50%. I'm glad I wasn't a sucker and bought stuff back in October when they first put it out. I guess they need to clean their shelves for Valentines and Easter. I did notice a cute little tabletop figurine set the other night at Walgreens, it had the words NOEL, with Santa Claus bowing to the baby Jesus in the manger.

At the end of the day this "legalist" doesn't care if the world thinks I'm a kook, it should be a badge of honor. Didn't Jesus say the world would hate us? The reason much of the church is ineffective today, is that the "world" cannot tell a difference between the way they act and the things they do and what the professing church says/does. We spend our time pandering to the world not honoring the author and finisher of our faith.

    Romans 12:2
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I think the article in the OP gives several good reasons why not to do Santa. What a sad thought to encourage a child's hope in anything other than Christ. What a great opportunity to show unbelievers we are set apart to give glory to Christ alone, and invite them to have faith in the only one that can bring true and lasting joy/peace/hope.

    I Peter 2:9-11
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, 12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Signed, the Grinch - Merry Christmas to all on BB!! :godisgood:

Free, I am so relived that you do not allow your kids, grandkids, great-grandkids to watch cartoons such as Popeye, read comic books, read stories such as Cinderella, Jack & the Beanstalk ect. In addition it good that you do not...
