    In Luke Mary says the following about her self;
Luke 1:48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

I am curious about this. The Catholics do this but mostly no other denomination does, and certainly not Baptists. Why do you think this is? I am not suggesting we do not see her as blessed but we never speak about her in that manner as scripture says will happen. So are we missing something here or does it not matter?

I would imagine the word "blessed" as used here, means but to consider happy.

I don't see where Mary was "blessed" over and above any other woman. She was merely chosen to be used by our Lord for his specific purpose.

First you did not repsond to the OP question. So then why don't you hear the Baptists calling her happy as scripture says?

Well, I think we all recognize that Mary was a very godly woman of great faith. We do not appreciate the great ridicule and scorn she was willing to endure for God. Her name is right up there with Moses, and David, and the prophets. And over the centuries, there have probably been more girls named Mary than any other name. So, she has been blessed and honored.

So you equate people naming their daughters Mary as fulfilling the scripture? Really?

There are terms that protestants sadly cannot use today for fear of association i.e. Catholic, Jehovah Witness etc......

She IS the blessed Mary, unfortunately the Catholic church has used it to equate her with Christ as an intercessor. Pope John Paul II once said, “The best prayer I like is the Rosary”.

In our faithful zeal downplaying such a theology we tend to also downplay Mary herself....sort of like throwing the baby out with the bath water. We must find a balance.

Yes I agree. We have let extremes in other faiths dictate extremes in our own and both are wrong.

I should have realized you were merely looking for a fight.

I gotta remember I've already hit the "ignore" button. :wavey:

...that's what happens when age creep up on you. The memory begins to slip on occasion.

What would you have us to do? Make idols in her image and pray to her? I do not think that is what God ment in His Word.

I would not have you do anything as I have not written the scripture, but my guess is that you are following exactly what satan would have you do.

We honor her as being one with great faith in the Lord, allowing herself to be the one jesus would be born by...

She was indded blessed by God, what greater honor than being chosen by Him to bear and bring forth Son of God?

'We" would refer to baptists, and we would be doing that by reading her story, and telling how God blessed her by choosing her as Mother of jesus!

I have heard many baptists say that Mary was blessed. We may not put the two words together like catholics do "Blessed Mary," but when we speak of the Christmas story, we certainly do speak of her with respect, with honor to her quiet obedience, with reference to the joy she found in being chosen to be the mother of Jesus. I Don't see how you are saying Baptists don't do this.

I'm sorry if I missed something here, but What in the world are you talking about? You seem to be asumming that someone is following the wishes of Satan based solely on the fact that they do not want to make idols to Mary.

Well it just has not been my experience to hear her spoken of in that manner in a Baptist church. I am not saying it never happnes, but it is extremely rare from my experiences to the point of not hearing it even once over a period of years.

    Some needed perspective for FAL:

    Luke 11:27-28
As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you." He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."

Some much needed perspective for Jerome.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
1John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Which Commandment is to be kept by us, as jesus said that the ONLY 2 Commandments that we would need to keep would be totally love the lord, and love others as we love ourselves!

NONE of us able to do either as God meant them to be, so jesus died so that His obedience reckoned/credited to us, and now freed up to love others by his love in us!

How does any of that relate to honoring mary though?
