    Oh...for sure ....they are everywhere....moving in the spirit under the annointing.....remember JF.....the annointing breaks the yoke,
    Jesus is the same yesterday,today and forever......so pentecost and the original apostles cannot compare.
    That silly rhyming noise that people make...is not a silly rhyming noise...it is a "secret" prayer language...so satan cannot break the code.....even though no one seems to know what you are saying...just keep doing it.
    You might not have seen a full manifestation of the gifts,because of unbelief on your part.....you have put god in a box....probably because you are only using the dead letter of the law....the letter killeth.....it's all about the spirit,holy laughter,animal noises......no more studying the bible,confessions, cathechisms, old dusty puritans who were concerned about keeping God's law/word besides they used all those big words.propitiation,atonement,reconciliation,etc......now that is passe......we are all about "the gifts"now.
    I am going out to buy some annointing oil right now at 7-11...ran low over the weekend:thumbsup::thumbsup:
    You have been going to a baptist church...that is good JF...because remember, ......the DEAD in Christ rise first!:thumbs:

    I believ that both Offices were closed after Apostolic Age, we now have the canon complted, but could they be still operating in a secondary sense though ?

    JF.......what do we need to know....that the bible does not tell us?
    Jude says THE FAITH ...was ONCE for all time delievered.....we have it.

    We do not need to do a what if scenerio;
    JF........ God could appear on Fox news......and offer a two hour special.....but we have no reason to believe He will.... he could send down several glowing 900 ft tall angels preaching the everlasting gospel.....
    He could speak with a loud voice like the sound of many waters from heaven where everyone on earth understood him in their own tongue.....
    He could send each person an email.....

    What would He say differently? Why did He come when He did...before technology,radio,internet......He relied on a handful of sinners.....some apostolic signs and wonders to set the foundation...Eph2:20......
    Then He has them tell us all we need for life and godliness,He saves us and empowers us to obey this revealed word...... we are not missing anything.
    The word of God received by the power of God is all we need.
    There are a handful of men in the ministry in our day who leave the door open as far as their teaching would say....but if God has closed that door, their claiming that it is open does not make it so....even in Jeremiahs day;

    JF....let me say it like this.....we know the bible is God given.....stay in it as Noah stayed in the Ark.

    The office of apostle ended with the death of the last apostle.

    The early church almost goes out of its way to show that the majority view was there are no apostles after the original group.

    As for prophet, I dont know how you define this so I don't know. Maybe they exist as a larger cultural ministry of proclaiming the truth.

    Look at an Apostle today as one who has been giving the "Gifting" to be able to establish and set up leadership in missions... Like paul establish local churches and set up leadership there...

    they would NOT have any revelation from God to add to the scriptures, defined to JUST establishing watching over local churches in missions fields...

    prophets those who wouild have "Gift" to be able to discern and teach the word of God into current situations, to expound upon the "prophetic" element of the scriptures and apply it to modern times... NO prophetc word of their own "from the Lord", NO revelation from God, just expounding on prophency already there!

    No Oral roberts, having "Jesus" appear to him 700 ft tall, and order him to build his hospital?

    He claimed he had a 7 hour conversation with a 900 ft tall Jesus....who told him all the people needed to send in 240 dollars....in 12 monthly installments, or one lump sum....:eek::eek:

    Where are you getting these definitions from? Are you just making them up as you go?

    I'd challenge the definition of Apostle you're using here and then also point out you need to show us individuals who have been apostles since the end of the first century.

    How does your definition of prophet mesh with the biblical usage of the term?

    not "making it up as we go", and believe that someone like a Chuck Colson would be one who can take the prophets and apply their principles to modern society and dealings with people Gods way!

    Bro. Iconoclast, I you have hit the nail on the head! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

    I also think of the verse where it states that Law and the prophets were unto John, since then, the Kingdom of heaven is preached and men press into it(paraphrasing this).

    Seems to me that we have two types of prophecy definitions today. One is the plain preaching of the Word of God. In that sense we could describe my pastor as a prophet.

    The other is practiced by the WoF and charismatic folks, where they actually claim to prophesy as the OT prophets did. I'm thinking of Kim Clement as one of them.

    All I can say is that those who claim the WoF-type gift of prophecy better be right every time. That was the test of a true prophet in the OT. If he was wrong, he was not a prophet from God, and you know what they did to hm, don't you?

    Oh, some of you don't know? They killed him.

    They cover even that scenerio, as they would see that IF functioning in the office of the prophet, would speak the revelation 'word of God" for the situation, but IF just operating in local church with a message from God, can have flesh get in the way!

    Be similiar to the Pope in the RCC, while speaking as Vicar of Christ, pronounces scripture, perfect word of the Lord, but when just talking in "normal" setting, can have bad doctrine/theology, make mistakes!
