    True enough.

Crossover democrats will vote for the republican least likely to beat Obama.

I do not believe Ron Paul will ever be President or even become the republican nominee. He may take the Iowa caucus, but from there I believe he will be on a slow downward slope.

I don't understand how anyone could even take him seriously.

The more I read about Ron Paul the more I have come to believe that though his baggage is different than Newt's, he has too much baggage to ever be elected president. For instance racist statements he made and published in Ron Paul’s Freedom Report, the Ron Paul Survival Report, the Ron Paul Political Report and the Ron Paul Investment Letter.

    Example:

“Order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks three days after rioting began.”

“If you have ever been robbed by a black teenaged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be.”

    There are more.

He says he didn't write these newsletters nor read most of them. He's not personally responsible for their contents. Newt's baggage? All of his doing.

If he were 15 years younger and I could cherry-pick sections of his foreign policy platform, I might be able to vote for him.

There's a difference between being "personally responsible" for something and responsible for something. Personally responsible means you are the one that did it. You are the one that wrote the statements. Responsible means that he had an obligation to make sure that items going out attached to his name (in an official fashion) mesh with his views.

Yes, he failed at that responsibility. He should have paid more attention to the newsletter. He's since made public statements about it and dealt with the situation. What else would have have the man do at this point? He made a mistake, admitted it, and moved on.

Looks like Dr. Paul's plans to re-institute slavery, legalize lynching, and open his own chain of white-only restaraunts has been uncovered.

    Darn.

Thats the whole point. The Dem's who will be voting on the Republican side in open primary States, such as Iowa want Paul to be the nominee, as they think he is one of the easiest for Obama to beat.

Thus the reason I am against open primaries.

In NY, if you decided to change your party affiliation, it will not be effective until after the next General election.
    I like that.

Learn to read! The Constitution - many Republicans claim - does not permit Congress to legislate such matters. Which states do you think would authorize lynching?

Iowa is not a primary, Iowa is a caucus. Neither is Iowa open, it is closed.

I realize that Iowa is a caucus - I just said "primary" as a generic term.

Form what I have heard and read - Iowa is open.

Do you have a good link otherwise?

True, but I think in practical terms--voters who typically vote Democratic crossing over and registering as Republicans on caucus night--rarely happens in Iowa.

Only registered Republicans in the state of Iowa can participate in the Republican caucus. Individuals may register to vote as a Republican at the caucus.

Tuesday 3 January 2012: Republican Party Caucuses meet in each precinct at 7:00 pm CST. Each Precinct Caucus takes a Presidential Poll by secret ballot and chooses the precinct's delegates to the County Convention.
