and I got thur. The guest host - Joe Pagg, mentioned that members of Congress are vested in retirement after only 5 years -and then at 80 % of regular pay.

I called in and told him that after 10+ years I receive zero retirement from Uncle Sam. I also mentioned to him that Congress should be on the same pay scale as the military.

Currently a Congressman receives about 170,000 per year - leaders about 190,000
    How about this:
    ..........................recieves pay of.....per month...per annum
    Congressman.............Lieutenant .........3258.......39,096
    Sub-committee Chair..Captain...............3771.......45,252
    Committee Chair........Major..................4290.......51,480
    Speaker of the House.Lt Col..................4972.......59,664

Note: leaders (majority & minority would not receive additional pay, unless the National Party would choose to do so.

In addition, they would be entitled to Housing which would be about
2600 per month or $31,200 per year (tax free)

2012 Basic Pay scale click here
2012 Housing allowance click here (PDF file)

    What say you

Run for Congress. Get elected. Then, be as corrupt as the people elected before you.

Personally, I view Congressmen and Senators as working temporary jobs. They need to be cut from full-time to part-time, they should get no benefits or retirement plans (since it is part-time). In North Carolina our legislators are part-time and it works just fine.

Like Salty, I served for eight years and when I ETSed I received no retirement for my service. If I did not have a Service Connected Injury I would now have only my SS and a $139 pension to live on. In the words of our founding fathers I have repeatedly been instructed that they never put a law in place to prevent lawyers from running our government because they did not believe we could ever be that foolish. But here we are today with professional sharks writing laws that benefit their well being at our expense.

At this time we have two lawyers, both with their licenses pulled for their dishonesty, residi9ng in the White House and the one at the desk in the Oval Office is not even a citizen, let alone Natural Born. The entire system is broken.

Why didn't you put some money away yourself during those eight years? Why didn't you save money for retirement throughout the rest of your working career (I assume you worked more than eight years?). Where's the personal responsibility.

    Do you enjoy telling lies?

That is beside the point. His comparison is still valid.

You might ask the same question of your congressman or senator. They've pretty well feathered their own nests at our expense.

We can't vote ourselves a raise and ridiculously generous retirement plan and have someone else pay for it.

==I am not a Obama supporter however I do believe in getting the facts right. Obama was born in Hawaii according to his birth certificate and news paper announcements at the time of his birth.

As Christians, truth should be our objective not politics.

This would require a Constitutional amendment. Do any of your NC legislators have a 6000 mile round trip to their part time job?

HOW ABOUT Congress working 100% on line?

==I have not looked into the details. However something has got to be done about the Washington politicians. They keep talking about "making sacrifices" because of the poor economy. Yet what they "really" mean is everyone else must make hard choices and sacrifices. They need to feel to pinch like everyone else. If that means amending the constitution to cut their pay, benefits, and work time than I think it is well worth the effort. It is high time they stop living high on the hog on the back of the average worker.

The only ones who might have a "6000 mile round trip" are those in Alaska or Hawaii. I don't pity any of them.

Politics should not be a career. It should be a common man speaking for other common people who are like minded. It should be a temporary position, after which he returns to his career. Lawmakers/Politicians are supposed to be public servants, not public leaders.

I would be willing to make an exception for the president, as his job is much more stressful, takes much more time from his daily life, and has much more responsibility/blame.

I think it would be a more peaceful world if voting was restricted to active and retired military personnel. It might also cut the size of government.
