I'm a fan of following the laws on the books, but also believe we should permit amnesty for many. We have a mighty work going on amongst legal (and we guess illegal) Hispanics and Asians in our community. The issues are complex. We love them (legal or not) and provide ministry for their needs.

Part of the problem is ridiculous, and illogical, laws on the books.

I am for the laws on the books and I am against amnesty, but I need to clarify that. There are those who are here illegally and have been so for many years and our government is partly responsible. These people have families they have started here and I think it would be improper to just throw them out ripping apart those families when our government is also responsible for letting them stay so long.

    So I would propose that if a person has been here 10 years or more and has no criminal history other then being here illegally and has a job and family with children they can stay with some conditions because they have violated our immigration laws and do hold responsibility for that;

1)They have to carry a special green card the rest of their life showing residence and employment.

    2) They have to register every year and pay a 1000 dollar fee

    3) If they move or change jobs they have to register again and pay another 1000 dollar fee.

    4) They can never become a citizen or hold any government office, local, state or federal.

    5) They can never own a fire arm or anything sold as a weapon including bows, hunting knives or things similar.

    6) They can never receive any government assistance of any kind including medical but they could receive Social Secuirity and medicare at the same rate as anyone provided they paid into it.

    7) if they are ever convicted of any criminal offence at any time during their stay they are deported immediatly after serving their sentence

    8) If they violate any of these condition they would be deported with no appeals process.

    9) If they are willing to accept these condition then those mentioned could stay, but if they reject them then they can leave immediately or be arrested put in prison for 5 years and then deported with no appeals.

"Illegal" = law breaker. What does God say about such?

If someone breaks a law (good or bad law) they must be willing to pay the punishment.

Hananiah, Azariah and Mishael would not bow to an idol and were justly punished for law breaking. They were, of course, right in breaking a law that would force them to disobey God. But whether they walked out miraculously or burned to cinders isn't the issue.

Illegally breaking into my country is not on the level of "obeying God" or not. It is a crime and law-breakers should be punished so severely it will stop them/others from following their steps.

I would propose that if a person has been a sinner for over 10 years...Christ should forgive them of all their sins - but have 7 strict requirements to remain a Christian.

and my ideal is just as ridiculous as the one proposed by Free.

Maybe I am a bit simpleminded, but I contend that if illegals (I refuse to use the PC undocumented alien) are refused medical, school, welfare, ect - then there may not be such a mad dash to the US.

Couldn't answer the poll. Interesting that "current illegals should apply for U.S. citizenship" or "follow the normal process for legal immigration" was not an option on your poll. Says volumes about your prejudices.

Illegals broke out from communism, and we praised them. Germans broke free from Hitler and we took them in, I guess "illegal" really depends on who is looking at it.

We have a lot of American illegals who came into Canada to escape American laws on joining the army. Many of them remained here and became citizens.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Interesting point

To some extent those fleeing repressive governments were granted residence in the US. Many of the individuals are coming over now is not for political reasons, rather for economic reasons.

As far as young men going to Canada - that was very true during Vietnam. However, I believe I read that for the Gulf wars - Canada would not accept them -(am I correct on that)
Of course there has been no involuntary draft sine 1974.

One question Jim - of those draft dodgers/ deserters - did they for the most part live off the Canadian govt, or were they self-sufficient.
Note: I am not condoning why they went to Canada - but rather the main issue of illegal aliens into the US is an economic purpose.

Paul told Onesimus to return to his master and do the right thing after he led him to the Lord. The illegals are not slaves but the principle is still the same. Onesimus went somewhere illegally and after ministering the gospel to him Paul made him do what was right by the law first.

Being born again, I no longer think the way the world thinks, or the way an American citizen thinks. I think and respond the way He thinks, denying myself. Let them in, feed them, love them.

Well let's see, how does He think?

Rom 13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
Rom 13:2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
Rom 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval,
Rom 13:4 for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer.
Rom 13:5 Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience.

Most worked very hard and fit into our economy. Some returned to the USA after the law changed, and many just became Canadian citizens.

Canada accepts anyone from another country if they are seeking asylum...freedom. We will not return even a convict if they are facing the death penalty.

By the way, if you lived in a country that faced military death, just maybe you would lie too!!! I also think God would approve of this giving the terms.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Is there a biblical account of somebody telling a lie with God's approval ?

You could use the same scripture in Nazi Germany and feel righteous. "Peace and goodwill toward men". "Love others as you love yourselves".

You will always find isolated exceptions.

I am not saying that telling lies is a rule of God, it is a given exception in certain situations..Try a number of the Old Covenant stories.

My wife's maternal parents changed their Jewish name during WW2 in case the Germans made it to london. They took on an Anglicized version. Having lived there then, I understand what they did.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Brother Curtis, start with Matthew and read until the end of Revelation, hopefully you will get a Revelation of what love is. Then you will see how useless man's politics are when you begin to think and act like Jesus.

That's quite a story Jim. Reminds me of when the harlot lied to protect the spies, and she was counted for righteousness.

You are a [snipped]. Jesus answered questions when challenged. You are nothing like him.
