Thoughts On Driscoll's New Marriage Book...

They are? Where I live Driscoll in never mentioned.

 

I believe John Macarthur said it best, (paraphrasing) If the church doesn't have a clue how to address sex, then how in the world did we get here? Seems to me our parents knew what they were doing.

Sex being a taboo in the chuch that no one is talking about is a fallacy. Since the 80's many sex books in evangelical circles have come out making the same claim that the church doesn't address sex.

 

There are a lot of reasons why Mark's book is causing so much controversy.

Its a terribly written, terribly proposed, not carefully thought about book at goes way too far into conversations about intimacy which are inappropriate. One of the things that comes out in the book is his obviously unbiblical view of women.

The book is just terrible and no one should read it as a serious work on marriage.

I recommend Tim Keller's far better, wiser, sane treatment in his latest on marriage.

 

That sounds typical Mark Driscoll. He clearly has personal issues in this area.

 

What is his unbiblical view of women? I won't be reading the book to find out.

 

I grew up on a dairy farm like so many of our parents in years earlier.

There are lots of other things that churches do not like too. However that smacks of not reading their Bible.

 

Some of these guys seem to have a hyper focus on sex. Young is sleeping with his wife on the roof of the church for crying out loud. (Not there is anything sexual going on on the roof)

In a bed on the roof of one of their churches. Who knows why.... It was on the front page of the newspaper in Fort Worth.

Banner of Truth,in their Jan 2012 edition, reviewed another one of Driscoll's books. He actually co-authored it with Gerry Breshears. The reviewer of Doctrine:What Believers Should Believe Brenton Ferry,said at the close:"...they reveal the nature of their contextualization project,which is to promote a Christianity that embraces irreverent adolescence. Theologically,this book does rise above that standard,but not by much."

I have gotten the sense that Driscoll's ministry, both written and oral is subject to grave weaknesses.

 

I would wonder why such dramatization and focus on the subject in the eyes of the public and church.

Am I locked into one view of a person forever? I absolutely said those things and stand behind saying them at the time.

Pastor Mark's new book has changed much about him and his ministry. Obviously when I made the original comments this latest book hadn't been written. This book is just bad and his reaction to his critics has been equally as bad.

It has really changed the way a lot of people, myself included, view him. He needs to repent and change his ways. It is a bad place to be in.
