Never heard of Voddie Baucham, so his endorsement matters nil to me.

Wouldn't matter anyway. Though what I've heard of Paul's monetary and domestic policy views mostly seem to jive with my own, I think his thoughts on foreign policy are naive and unrealistic.

I'm not a V.B. fan, but he makes very good points here.

Surprised you didn't see this a few years ago... He certainly doesn't compromise!

Did you read the article? Baucham actually backs up the wisdom of Paul's foreign policy with scripture....

Pastors have zero business endorsing politicians.

I know Voddie and this is ridiculous. It discredits his ministry.

That is a ridiculous, un-biblical stance, that has DESTROYED our country. Pastors should provide leadership in every area of life which Christianity addresses. Including picking which people are going to run our country. The idea that the people most knowledgeable, on the whole, of scripture, that those people should actually STAY QUIET....yeah, that is sick.

Completely false! Pastors are required to know the issues and which ones stand and which ones fall according to Scripture...and express THAT to their flocks. They have no business endorsing politicians who may or may not coincide with these issues. I have no intention of my tithes and offerings being used as campaign funds, particularly when the one being endorsed is not my choice.

People should look to pastors to provide leadership in picking those who run the country? A case of misplaced faith and undue esteem, perhaps? After all, they are only men like us.

If they are men "like us", meaning, I suppose, that they have no leadership calling or gift of discernment, then by all means, do not follow them - at all. Don't follow their advice in political OR religious matters.

    1. Is "I'm voting for Ron Paul" technically/legally an endorsement? 2. Where does the Bible say that Pastors have zero business endorsing politicians?

They are not equipped to give political advice, just like they are not equipped to give financial advice, medical, etc. They are called to spiritual leaders equipped to teach and tend to a flock. Endorsing candidates is not in the job description, nor should it be.

This assumes that the Bible does not speak to political issues.

I'm not sure if this post is meant to refute what I wrote, but if it is my rebuttal is that I have learned to subject any pastors' (who I have sat under) teachings/opinions to the test of Scripture. Even the clergy makes mistakes.

Just because someone has the title of pastor, it does not mean I should accept everything he says without discernment on my part.

True, true. But you would consider it, wouldn't you? I mean, if your pastor is trustworthy and an able minister of the word.

    1. What is the title of this thread.

    2. Where does the Bible say pastors shouldn't drive Toyotas? Arguments from silence are invalid.

Of course, but it's not his word that is gospel.

No, it assumes Scripture gives the outline of the pastorate, and politics are not part of it.
