I found this an interesting quote by Walter Brueggemann:

This should be in a debate forum.

How is it that in a folder with the title All Other Discussions anyone can believe a topic, quote, etc. cannot be discussed. Can you explain that to me.

    Did you like the quote?

Remember Jesus said, Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. KJV. I may be wrong, but I know of now place where people who make war are praised by Christ or by Paul.

I find the quote offensive, and ill-informed. I don't agree with it at all. Nor do I agree with what you think Christ's words mean. Are you putting it here so noone will debate it ? Are we to accept it and only put aggreeable comments up ?

I put it here so that everyone could discuss it, not just Baptists.

So, what do you think Christ meant when he said Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

    Why is it offensive?

Why didn't Christ praise those who want war?

Why did he praise the peacemaker?

That's what the debate forum is for.You know trhis. I do not attend a church that calls it'self "Baptist", yet I am able to debate freely, in those forums. Again, unless you simply cannot read, you know this. Your statement is highly dubious.

You have been challenged several times on these views you have, and never answer. Why would you move this to a discussion forum, and not the debate forum? Are you tired of the same answers ?

Move this to a debate forum, and I will be happy to answer.

I apologize, this is a FELLOWSHIP forum, not a DISCUSSION forum, so-called. However, my challenge stands. It seems cowardly to put this in a fellowship forum, knowing there have been very well-articulated arguments put to you on this subject, in the debate forums.

The words debate and discussion are synonyms.

    The folder is entitled

    All Other Discussions
    Friendly discussion about everything else.

Do you see the word discuss? Discuss is a synonym for debate. So debate, but be civil. Thanks in advance.

PS, I am leaving in a few minutes to go on an overnight church retreat. We can talk later. Have a blessed weekend.

No. Put it in the debate forum. You have had all these quesations answered, already. Do not subject the nice folks who hang out down here with the stuff that goes on in the debate forum. They don't go there for a reason.

If you do not put it there, I can only assume you don't want it debated, you only want it positively re-enforced. I will not do that, because I believe you are wrong. If you put this in a debate forum, we can answer you, and you can write off our answers as racist, irrational, or whatever other word you want to, but at least we are able to answer them and be within forum rules.

I find no offense in Brueggemann's generalization of "dressing up for the occasion" but I would want him to enlighten us why he considers the peacemakers dress (up) funny?

To associate people who wear military unforms with absoluteness, severity, greed, and cynicism is very offensive, to me.

David was a peacemaker. He put a rock in Goliath's forehead and Israel had peace. David was a great man of peace, but he also was a great man of war. David carried Goliath's head around, to show other nations what happened to those who disturbed Israel's peace. God said David was a man after his own heart. Scripture records David's sins, but his guerrilla warfare tactics are not numbered among them, and David is a giant in the Old Testament. He wore the clothes of a warrior.

When the English ended Napolean's reign of terror, creating peace, they wore the medals, associated with greed in the O/P.

Peacemakers often get blood on them.

Gandhi is viewed by the world, and some weak christians, as a great example of a peacemaker. Yet he denied the resurrection.

I wish we could get a work visa to go to hell, and ask some of his followers if they still think he was a peacemaker.

    And he did dress funny.

Mother Teresa is nearly worshipped by the world, and weak christians. Even though the bible states good works in not evidence of salvation.

It is a known fact that when she spent time with people near death, she worked to reconcile them to whatever God they worshipped. Do you think Jesus calls that "peacemaking" ?

    But she did dress funny.

If everyone dressed up naked there would probably be peace in the world. We would be more interested in finding a safe place to sit and walk than in hurting someone else.

    James 2:18
Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
James 2:17-19 (in Context) James 2 (Whole Chapter)
    James 2:20
But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
James 2:19-21 (in Context) James 2 (Whole Chapter)
    James 2:26
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
James 2:25-26 (in Context) James 2 (Whole Chapter)

Salvation comes from Christ, but it came because of his work on the cross. His faith was not a simple free cheap grace faith. Our faith, our true faith is shown in our works. If we require no works we are trying to give salvation with no cost, cheap grace. So I would say that works is a sign of a person who is saved as they are not expecting cheap grace.

And now you see why this is in the fellowship forum. same old avoiding of direct challenges. You started a thread about peacemakers, I thought.

    I'll try again.

C.T.Boy, what happens to those who die without Christ ? Never mind their works, for a second.

Die without Christ because they rejected him or because no one ever told them about him?

On the case of rejection they will spend eternity where Christ and God is not present.

In the second case, I leave that up to God. I believe God is a God of perfect justice and that his perfect Justice will be done ... whatever that is.

Now, a question for you, what about a person who claims they believe but never show any works in their life?

You just do not like to be chellenged, do you ?

    Start another thread about works.

How can someone who tells you Jesus is not the savior, there was no resurrection, and thet God really respects all beliefs, be considered a peacemaker, by Christ ?

    It's simple.

Who is the peacemaker ? David, or Gandhi ?

Why do you not answer my question?

I answered yours, but will not continue to answer inane questions when you refuse to respond to my questions.

What about the person who says they believe but produce no fruit nor works?

What about those who dispense cheap grace?

    Please answer.
