We know that Mitt Romney is a political consultant's invention. Whichever way the wind is blowing Mitt will find that direction and take a 'position' on an issue. This was seen in real time during last night's debate. The subject was releasing of the candidate's taxes. Romney was reminded that when his father was running for President in 1968 he released 12 years of tax returns. Would Mitt do that as well?

Mitt: "Maybe." <uncomfortable laugh>. "I might release multiple years. We'll see."

(Loud booing and jeering by audience)

"We'll release multiple years, I don't know how many."

So here Mittens changed his position before the jeers of protest died down so his position would better line up with his audience. What a fake!

Brother....Mitt has always operated in the mode of risk aversion. That answer doesn't surprise me in the least. However I do note he appeared shocked by the question & resentful that he even had to address the question. Was he ever a boy scout....their motto is "Be Prepared". If he cant be prepared for a lousy debate, how will he do as POTUS?

Agreed. Especially since the last time he dealt with it was three nights before. Hello! - Did he think they were going to forget about it?

Not defending him, but if what I've heard is true, he may be witholding them for political effect. I've heard he gives to charity big time and if true it would be nice for his records be released around the time Obama's are for the contrast effect since Obama's giving to charity is very limited in the past.

Just a thought. Did not see the debate.

Or maybe he says he gives a lot to charity and he doesn't really. Or maybe he's worried his effective tax rate will be lower than usual wage earners because he gets the bulk of his income from investments. Or both.

Perhaps he made tax maneuvers in tax year 2011 to show a lot of charitable giving knowing he was running for President but previous years don't show very much, hence his reluctance to release prior years.

Romney needs to mimic Gingrich. When he changes his mind, admit he made a mistake and all is forgiven. When he really fouls up just say that he has gone to God and all is forgiven.
Of course Gingrich has played the audience during the debates better than Jimmy Swaggert used to play his congregation!

He tithes to the Mormon Church. That's probably several million a year.

Mitt Romney is the essence of evil. It is a matter of judgement which is closer to the flames of hell, him or Gingrich.
