I'm going through something that has me deeply troubled.

Music is something that I've always turned to, but today it hit me more than it ever has in my life.

I laid on the bed flat, quiet and still, and listened to these songs:

    The Old Rugged Cross
    Precious Lord
    My Jesus I Love Thee
Just a Closer Walk with Thee
Pass me not Oh Gentle Savior
    Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
    Jesus Cares for Me

Another song that really hits is "Sing Allelu." Here is the link to it. I've yet to find anyone else that knows it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-czywU7xnM

The spiritual comfort and healing that comes when one quietly soaks in the praise of God can never be overestimated. I didn't know it could get stronger than what I've experienced in the past, yet it can and did.

I'd just like to encourage others to not forget that when in times of trouble, when it seems like praising God might be more of a chore, take the time to try it anyhow. You may walk away from it very, very surprised. There have been times where I just wasn't into it and it took a few songs to catch my attention, but it's extremely rare for me to listen to praise music and not break eventually and reconnect, no matter how distant I feel. Key words just end up jumping out and turning your thoughts to heaven and spiritual things and away from this world and its problems.

And that is a very sweet deal.

I encourage people to read the account of King Saul-----paraphrasing here----the Bible says that on a particular occasion the King was in a rant----grouch pot, if you please----nothing would suit him---nothing would please him

All the King's men couldn't calm him

Not knowing what else to do----the King's men turned to a little fella from the house of Jesse the Bethlehamite

David came into the King's presence with that harp---and started to play for the King----and literally soothed the savage soul of Saul

Theres a savage soul tucked up inside everyone of us-----and it would seem that when the savage soul begins to manifest its ugly self-----look---I say----look to Christian music---and see if that don't soothe!!!

Gina, I like your taste in sacred music. While the music must sooth your troubled soul, the words will lift your spirit high unto the Lord.

By the way, I understand that "Sing Allelu" is an off-shoot of the Odes of Solomon #40 (but the music and the lyrics are contemporary).

I am sorry to hear that you are troubled GinaB, but I too dearly love music to calm a troubled mind.

Some music that I find profoundly uplifting is

    Deo gratias Jean De Ockeghem
    Spem in alium Thomas Tallis

God SO OFTEN uses music to penetrate my soul. I am often surprised by the songs He uses, they are not always the older hymns of the faith, and sometimes they are the latest hits by some new Christian group or artist.

I have several that I just cannot shake, nor would I want to!

    This, for instance:

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=il-bJjeiOhY

Some of First Call's early work.

    I can only imagine.

Shout to the Lord (and others)

    Anything by Sojourn Worship

And on the list goes. I'd find links but at work I am very limited as to what I can bring up on a search.

True, glfredrick. Singing new songs is a beautiful thing! Or older ones in new ways...I love what Bart Millard's music can do to some of my faves.

But I also gotta stand up for the oldest of songs and scripture put to music. There's a special peace in knowing that one is hearing or singing the same words, the same praises, the same verses as so many who already stand in the presence of our Father. It binds us together with believers of the past and lends the comfort of familiarity even to songs we may never have heard because they were long forgotten until someone dug them out for us. That's part of why I really like Fernando Ortega. He has a habit of reviving songs most people forgot to remember. (and still comes up with beautiful new ones!)

Hmm. We need a singing emoticon!

One of the reasons I still like and use Sankey's Songs and Solos,,,,the hymn book of Ira Sankey and D.L. Moody.

I sing so badly a lady once got up from her pew, went into hall, and turned off the PA system. I had forgotten to turn the microphone off at the pulpit!

    Cheers, bless,

    Jim

I like it too! BTW, Ira has seen Gipsy Smith at one of his US revival meetings (in his old age), and asked: "Gipsy, I have known you for many years now, we both gotten old, but you did not change, you are beaming with joy and happiness. What is your secret?" To which Gipsy replied: "I haven't lost the wonder of it all!" :saint:

Brother Jim, you are funny!!!

I went to a bloke house where all the chaps have domestic allergies....2 hours of washing up later me booping to the mp3 player and up to my elbows in suds and dishes....it was done.

Music is the antidote to all house keeping worries.....

the answer to the question, nah there is no automatic dishwasher just cheap labour....

Tomorrow I shoulder my way into the laundry.......:tonofbricks::thumbs:
