Is the 7th day Adventist Church a Christian church?

I knew some people that were SDAs. IIRC, they do believe in the same salvation that we do, and the trinity, but they get really hung up on some legalism, veganism, and a real obsession with end times study. Good question.

They are a cult, but of their own flavor.

 

E.G. White's words are very clear, you will not be forgiven until all sins are eradicated from one's life and your character is perfected. You find this same heresy (among many others) in Mormonism. And then there is the 'Soul Sleep' issue.

 

Well, I don't even thing RCC or SDA come "close" but both are cults, the RCC being one of the oldest cults.

 

From Nicea to the Reformation official and universal standard for judging cults was the Ecumenical Creeds. I don't know why that should be changed. Changed to what? Who but an ecumenical council has the authority to overturn 1500 years of a historical standard?

 

Well, part of that cult has lined up closer to orthodox Christianity. There was a schism as a result of part of the leadership of the WWCOG that wanted to bring that church closer to biblical truth. Some have become trinitarian (although they still require adherence to the Ten Commandments for salvation) and the rest of them still follow Armstrongs original teachings (Philadelphians).

What in the ecumenical creeds is inconsistent with 2 Tim 3:15?

 

The issue is not whether the creed agrees with Scripture or not, but whether people look to the creed instead of Scripture as the authoritative Word.

I am glad God sent men that were bold to enough to investigate the claims of some, investigate Scripture, and work to make a united statement in defense of key doctrines. Like the faithful in Berea these too set a fine example for us. Sadly, though, very few people today are willing to put in the effort themselves. They hardly pray or spend normal devotional time in the Word, let alone really dig in and feast upon the Word. Many are lazy, many think it is unloving and intolerant of others ideas.
