Heard coming into work this morning!

That in 2008, he made a speech saying that Satan was attacking America through higher education, which I to agree with, but also through the Protestant church?

Any know the context, or if he still holds to that?

You've got it all wrong. <sigh>

It would take me too long to straighten it out for you. I suggest you find the audio clip or YouTube clip.

If he meant mainstream liberal Protestant churches then he was right.

yes, as those are the 'churches' that preach social Gospel, but neglect the Gospel that God uses to save!

Yes, Santorum was attacking mainline Protestant churches and their schools. Santorum was 'preaching to the choir' at tiny ultraconservative Roman Catholic Ave Maria University, established just a few years ago by the founder of Domino's Pizza. [No, their sports teams are not the Noids, but the Gyrenes[?]]

    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mainline_Protestant:

    Mainline Protestant Churches

mainline churches have maintained religious doctrine that stresses social justice and personal salvation. They were leaders of the Social Gospel and were active in social causes such as civil rights, and equality for women. In addition, mainline churches and laity founded most of the leading educational institutes in the US.

    Denominations

    The largest U.S. mainline churches:

    United Methodist Church
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)
    Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
    Episcopal Church
    American Baptist Churches USA
    United Church of Christ
    Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

The Association of Religion Data Archives also considers these denominations to be mainline:

    Religious Society of Friends
    Reformed Church in America
    International Council of Community Churches
National Association of Congregational Christian Churches
    North American Baptist Conference
Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches
    etc.

    . . . .

    Not considered mainline:

    The Southern Baptist Convention
    Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod
    Churches of Christ
    Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)
    etc.
