Thirty years ago today I enlisted in the Coast Guard.
By this time at night I was laying on my rack thinking "What have I gotten myself into!?!"

After I was discharged from the Army in '64, I wondered if I would look back some 20 years later and say --"If only I had stayed in--" --!

That time frame materialized, and, NO, I did not regret my decision to vacate the olive drab premises!!!!!!!!:thumbs::thumbs:

Even now, some 30 years past that memorable point in time I still say "Thank you God for getting me out!"

Seriously, I think if I had had a couple of less "egotistical" COs I would not have minded it so bad. A few of those characters seemed to consider themselves on par with God Himself, and that was a bit more than I could stand.

If I had stayed in the Air Force, I could have retired with 20 years at age 39 or 30 years at age 49 instead of working until almost age 57 (16 days short of it). I retired when I did only because of the pain from arthritis.
