I agree 100% with Ms Markell. She is doing good in "calling out" Rick Warren and trying to pound some sense into him.

    Dude,

Warren needs to really clarify what all this is about. I'm sure he will come out with a statement that appeases all. He will not say we serve the One and same God, but I'll bet he'll sure continue to wlak and talk like a Muslim to keep from offending them.

He simply refuses to offend anyone.

The "Offense of the CROSS" that the scriptures speak of.

Amen Brother!! Go look at Warren's web sites and they are full of teaching series and tips to be non-offensive unless it takes on fundamental Christians, then it's full speed ahead.

I truly feel he's an Emergent, and sadly a scripture twisting one.

Think thatRick warren needs to NOW come clear with what he actually teaches and holds to, and IF emergent/post modern, than say it proud!

Yes, I agree, I don't have any problem him holding to the new Emergent views or whatever, but please be honest about it.

How can you not have a problem with someone holding to the heretical ideas of the emergent church?

I feel anyone can believe what they want, I have a problem when they try to spread it as the truth to others, which is what he is doing. Everyone has the freedom to believe whatever heresy they want.

People go to hell for what they believe. I would maintain it is of eternal importance...and I would agree that it is even more so when they teach it to others.

Ok monty, I guess it is my poor use of words you are having trouble with. Maybe I shouldn't have said I have 'No problem with". I'm personally a very conservative Christian and believe in no other way to God. I'm an apologist so I'm aware of and defend against many false religions and beliefs. What I meant in my comment was that anyone can believe what they want--it's a free world, so to say. I will tell those who are in these belief systems that they are wrong all day long, but I'll also respect their freedom to believe what they believe. Does that make sense to you?

I was hoping that is what you meant. Sadly, I learned long ago to never take such things for granted, especially on a message board.

Think we boh meant that IF Rick Warren really holds those views, best to "come clean", so we would know what the truth is!

Too often people choose to believe opinion about a person or subject rather than consider the source and proper documentation to verify the opinion to see if it is correct or not.

I have heard opinions told as though they were truth on some subjects that I have personally heard the author say something completely different.

So we need to be careful about what we claim to be truth when it may be an opinion that may or may not be true.

I studied under one of the top masters in my field and the ignorant and unskilled would give opinions about him that in almost every case were completely false.

    I agree.

I've heard many lies about high-profile Christian over the years and have noticed that lots of other Christians don't really care about what is true or false... they seem to just go with whatever they want to believe.

On numerous occasions, I have confronted other Christians with documented evidence of what the accused person actually wrote/said/believes and it makes no difference.

The same thing works in reverse when a high-profile Christian is held in high-esteem by many yet there are teaching falsehood or telling lies. I have provided documented evidence of what the esteemed person has clearly written/stated/believes and it makes no difference either.

Essentially, most Christians believe what they want to believe and won't be bothered with the facts... even if it damages another person or it will radically damage their own life and walk with God.

How strange it is that Christians, who claim the Name of the One Who described Himself as Truth, seem to have so little regard for what is true or false!! :BangHead:

I'm very happy to see Warren come out and make a statement on this. I'm a BIG critic of his and still am, but this was heading in an ugly direction. It is sad that journalists will make up words to impune someone.

    You have nailed!
many christians either take all things at face value, or else ignore what is shown to be clearly wrong!

What is hard is that we have to get our info from even Christian trusted sources that can get it wrong!
