The Annointing

    Christians in charismatic and penecostal circles often refer to what they term "The Annointing" in reference to empowering of an individual by the Holy Spirit at a specific time for the performance of a specific task. In the old days they referred to it as the "Unction of the Holy Spirit".
    From what I understand they say it happens when you wait upon God in preparation to minister and is often tied into fasting and prayer.
    What are your thoughts on this? Does such a thing exist? Is it biblical? Is it baptist? Is it necessary? Have you experienced it?

    PLEASE I AM NOT TRYING TO START AN ARGUMENT I REALLY WANT TO kNoW WHAT YOU THINK

    Having worked with someone who is the charismatic's charistmatic, they have a feeling of "supremeship" with their theology. They're nothing more than a bunch of "Mrs. Bertha Betterthanyou's". They take the "baptism of the Holy Ghost" waaay too far. There is a baptism of the Holy Ghost, and that takes place at the point of salvation. When we are saved, we get everything He has too offer, and not some at the point of salvation, and then later, the "big dose".

    Look @ Samuel & David. God told Samuel to go to Jesse's house, and take a horn of oil as well. He told Samuel when you find him, anoint him with the oil. The oil is an OT type of the Spirit. We get this anointing when we are saved. Now, we aren't able to raise the dead, walk on water, be a NT prophet, etc., but we do have Him as our guide.
