Did you buy a lottery ticket?

I bought two tickets a week for several years but then decided winning would be more trouble than it was worth.

I did! But for our state one, not that one.

Took three tries, thus three tickets, because we didn't know how to play. The first try, the numbers were auto picked. The second one turned out to be two tickets on one and somehow something got added and it cost more.

If we ever do it again, at least we have an idea of how. LOL Nope, we didn't win, though in my dyslexic state, I did get some of the numbers, but backwards, which in itself was amusing enough to make the loss of a few bucks worth it.

Woulda been a nice investment, a couple bucks for a few million, figured we wouldn't win but it doesn't bother me to take a chance once in a while, usually via a raffle ticket for some school event or fundraiser for whatever is going on around here. I did win a Folgers gift basket once...had to write a story about being home for the holidays or something and I wrote a smart alec one liner and got it. ROFL That was funny...oh, and I won some dairy stuff once in a drawing, but that wasn't any cost either.

And if I won? COLLEGE OF CHOICE AND CARS FOR THE KIDS! WOOT!

 

So people really DO win the quilts! LOL I always wanted to win one of those, especially when I lived in Ohio and they were all gorgeous ones made by people in the Amish community.

They occasionally have these gift baskets at a particular place that does fundraisers for their groups, where you write down how much you're willing to pay. The last time, one worker had her daughter stand there and instructed her to wait until about a minute before it was over, then just up the price by one dollar on the really nice baskets. Half the people standing there at the time overheard and just walked away without bothering, probably earned them a lot less money off the gift baskets than normal. That struck me as one of the most selfish things I'd ever witnessed!

 

I assume this poll was meant for the 640 million dollar one, right?

For that one, I did not buy one. For the drawing the week before I did...as I was at a gas station and found two bucks in my pocket.

I rarely carry cash, so those kinds of things I don't buy too often.

 

Most weeks I play $1 each on the Mega and Super Lottos. I didn't play the $640 million one though. I forgot two weeks in a row to take my wallet with me when I went out since I no longer drive.

 

No. I never buy lottery tickets. I consider it, to put it gently, unwise.

My ticket seller was a Korean born in Korea and we had many interesting conversations. It was worth at least one dollar of my time.

 

Living in Nevada, we do not have the lottery here!! We have enough ways for others to push their luck. I haven't bought a lottery ticket since we lived in Florida, and that's been about 12 years ago.

Since NC finally joined the states around us in offering lottery tickets for "education" I haven't bought a single one. Too many folks, behind the scenes, are getting rich off people who can't afford to buy those tickets. They are buying a "dream" for someone else.

 

Nope, life has its struggles from time to time, but the Lord has blessed me greatly. I don't think "Mega Millions" would be a blessing. I don't care who you are. It would be a strain on your marriage, "relatives" and "old friends" popping out of the woodwork. Not for me. No thanks.

See this happening a lot. The local convenience store now dispenses scratch-off from a machine. People will buy and buy from it until they hit. After they're done and ready to cash in they go to the soda fountain machine to buy the 75 cent quart soda and will get in line with winning tickets in one hand and a soda and LINK card(food stamp debit card in IL) in the other.

I rarely ever play. Twice in the last 21 years. Once a year or two ago when MM reach around 300 mil and then in 1991 when the IL Lotto reached around 60 mil. I bought one ticket each. The dream of the money is nice, but winning also scares me as I would have a hard time facing my church leadership knowing I became a millionaire from a means of gambling. They have never spoken out against it, but I believe it's just known that throwing money at a bad thing is not good. I'd rather not gain the money that way if I lose all credibility with people in my church. Just not worth it.

 

That's the opposite of what I would have expected for Nevada. Why don't they? (maybe enough problems already with the major gambling allowed?)
