What Does Easter Mean to You?

    This is what it means to me...

    WHAT EASTER MEANS TO MEAN ME!!!

    Ephesians 1:4-10 - The Message (MSG)

    Long before he laid down earth's foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.

    Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we're a free people—free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free! He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ, a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth.

    WHEN HE RETURNS, like the verse above says, "He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need," WE WILL ALL FLY UNITED, ONE IN THE KING, there's no need to pack, He has everything!

    HAPPY EASTER to all my born-again brothers and sisters! :type:

    I prefer to think of Easter as "Resurrection Day"--the day our Saviour rose from the dead to assure that we will also be resurrected to a new eternal life. It has nothing to do with eggs or anything else that mankind has chosen to do with that day. Also, this year I turn 66 (or 39 for the 28th time) on that day.

    To me it's pretty simple (same as Christmas)

    Without Easter...I spend eternity in Hell.

    I pretty much agree with what Jon-Marc posted. I never had any children so the question of eggs/bunnies never came up with me.

    I, too, will be 66 this year, although not on April 8. Mine will be on 05/09. However, I will be commemorating my 46th RE-birthday later on this month!

    BTW, Happy Birthday Jon-Marc!! :thumbsup:

    The Greying of the Board?

    Happy birthday to both of you. I, too, will be 66 in October. Hrd to believe, and even more difficult to wrap my mind and tongue around. :laugh:

    It seems that the board is getting older, and greyer. :wavey:

    Not a ton. I used to not really "celebrate" Easter, Christmas, etc., but do love the lights and feel of Christmas. Easter...another story. Dressing kids up and giving them tons of candy never struck me as a way to help them understand the meaning so that kinda turns me off to a degree. Interestingly enough, I was much more interested in it when I was an atheist and when I was a weak Christian. I'm not saying that's true of other people, that's just how it went with me personally.

    The more commercialized things get, the more churches focus on providing egg hunts and special music that often tends to focus on the person singing rather than on the singer guiding people into worship, the more turned off I get every year.

    That doesn't stop me from buying tons of clearance candy after it's over though. LOL I'm all stocked up and have enough to take me through the rest of the school year. (I do stuff like pass it out to students who finish their work or shoot hoops in the gym and they get one piece for every one they make that I don't, etc..)

    Seems to me like the "holy days" just keep getting more and more pagan focused. That bothers me, especially when it becomes incorporated into church services. Makes me sad.

    I've tried, I just can't seem to get into it like other people, although I do love knowing that my Savior rose again and having a certain time set apart each year to reflect on that. I simply don't find most churches to be a very good place to do that because of the show, the focus on looks, the egg hunts, etc.. It's a rare child that gets really excited about going to church to hear the real reason why, they're excited about the treats and wearing cute outfits. Can't blame them...it IS fun, why wouldn't it be, right? It's just not the reason and it feels a little off to be part of it.
