The other night, my wife and I were watching an old Johnny Carson show. We have a set of his old shows on DVD, and when our cable service goes out, like the 18 hours, it was out the other day; these old shows aren't half bad.

Anyways, as we watched prime cuts of his comedic monologues, and those of his numerous guest comedians and his Mighty Carson Player skits, it hit me that during the entire two hours of prime cuts from his shows; there were NO, and I mean no, sarcastic, caustic, acrimonious, or insensitive comments about the leaders of our nation, or DC in general.

My question to those who are checking this post out is simple: Have our comedians and comedy sitcoms (Saturday Night Live, etc.) gotten out of control, when it comes to giving respect to the office, our elected officials are in; and in doing so, has the right to "Freedom of speech" been pushed way to far??

We don't have to agree with them, in fact, that is why we have the power of the vote, so why has it become too easy to verbally slam, attack and even sway the opinion of the public by using caustic, sarcastic, insensative humor?

And as I listened and laughed at their jokes, I was amazed at how they could solicit laughs without putting another person down! :type:

JUST WONDERED WHAT SOME OF YOU MAY THINK!

I wouldn't simply default to blaming a generation...crass, crude humor is easy and gets big laughs for little investment. There are good comics out there, you just have to look a bit harder. I'm sure if we thought really hard we could probably find more than a few examples of crude comedians in Carson's era too.

    That's a Good Point...

...I know I can think of one, like George Carlin. But, It was an interesting thing (to me) to see such a sterile environment on late night television. It's just toooooooo bad we can't find that in today's generation. :tear:

Look Brother Paul, DC is littered with "jokesters" mislabelled as congressmen. They make it too easy for today's comedians. They lob it up to them, and the comedians smack it out of the park. The DC politicians are complete jokes.

What concerns me even more than the lack of respect for those holding office is the general lack of respect for ANYONE.

Time was we treated each other with dignity.

Christians especially tried to treat all people well, especially other Christians.

Now if one understands a passage of scripture differently than someone else does, you expect to get your head handed to you on a platter.

Militant, fightin' Christian folk seem to ignore scripture that tells us to treat others nice even when we have to correct their ideas.
