    Amen.

    It's a shame NASCAR isn't there anymore.

They had some good races there, but place was hard on tires. Been there many times.

It's a "roots" track, and it never should've gone. Hard on tires just means better racing. I loved that place.

Bobby you said you love the place, how many times have you been there to watch a race? I enjoyed it but it was a long was from my favorite. Just a little southeast of there is my favorite, Darlington then Atlanta. But I too wish it was still on the schedule.
By the way I don't think they raced there before 1964 or 1965. If I recall correctly it was a flat track and about a mile at the start.

I've been once. Saw Mark Martin win there my senior year in HS.

But I also don't know that going to a place has anything to do with loving it.

I love watching races at Martinsville, but I've yet to make my way there.

I've been to ORP probably 30 or 40 times over the years, but I can't say I particularly think the racing is the best or that I love it. Also been to Gateway a few times, and (blasphemy) I've been to the Indy 500/Brickyard 400 and I loathe that race track.

Rockingham brings back good memories. I remember Kyle Petty having a strangle on the track. Bobby Hamilton getting his last win for Petty at the Rock. It was always a race I looked forward to.

If I understood correctly, the reason why Rockingham lost one, and then both of their race dates was because they had let the track go to a certain extent. They didn't update it to keep up with the Joneses, so to speak. That being said, they should have never taken both dates from them. I too, miss the Rock!!

Nope, that had nothing to do with it.

The 2nd Rockingham race was the first one to bite the dust. It went away because Nascar killed the Southern 500 and went to California for Labor Day weekend in 2004. Instead of Darlington just losing the 2nd date, Rockingham lost theirs. After all that, Darlington lost their 2nd date anyway.

The spring race went away due to a settlement of a lawsuit brought by Francis Ferko and Rudy Vaughn, shareholders of Speedway Motorsports Inc., which owns the Texas Motor Speedway. They alleged that Nascar promised Texas Motor Speedway a 2nd race but never followed through on it. It settled out of court, of course, because Nascar didn't want anybody looking too closely at the relationship between International Speedway Corporation (ISC) and them, since Nascar owns ISC and ISC owns most of the tracks on the Cup schedule.

I think Nascar was quite content to keep the spring Rockingham race on the schedule, but the lawsuit prevented them from doing so.
