Many denominations that teach OSAS misunderstand what “rewards” are. I think this topic is important enough to make a thread.

    The reward is an inheritance.

Colossians 3:14 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

The reward is the inheritance of eternal life.

    Hebrews 9:15
For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

In case you still are not sure the inheritance is eternal life, which is our reward, please consider these scriptures, there should be no more doubt after reading them.

Matthew 19:29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.

Luke 10:25[ The Parable of the Good Samaritan ] On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

The REWARD is an INHERITANCE, and the INHERITANCE is ETERNAL LIFE.

    well...

Bible tells us that rewards are things that we earn based upon faithful service done on behalf of the Lord while on earth...

Salvation and eternal life in christ free gifts from God to us, but up to us for degree and amount, if any, of rewards!

And tend to see them as being as to how much we will get to do for the lord once he establishes his reign on earth, and to what degree to appreciate heaven!

Especially considering modern physics, "eternal" may refer to a quality, not a time period. "Eternal life" starts in this life and not after one's dies.

Further, If Hell is eternal, temporally speaking, then everyone has eternal life thus the NT must be referring to quality, not duration.

The reward is eternal life, it is what we get for stop sinning and obeying Jesus’ teachings.
I gave you scripture that simply and plainly tells us that the reward is an inheritance, and the inheritance is eternal life. Why do you not believe it?
I think that once you accept the truth about rewards being an inheritance of eternal life, then it will all make more sense to you.

Eternal means eternal, life without end.

I'm sorry but that is so not even remotely Biblical.

It is biblical. You are defending your false religion’s doctrine.

2 John 1:8 Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.

It only takes one scripture, and this one scripture tells us that it is possible to lose the reward. It only takes one scripture; however, here is more.

1 Corinthians 3:14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.

Colossians 3:22-25 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. 25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism.

Matthew 5:46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?

Matthew 6:1 [ Giving to the Needy ] “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

Matthew 10:40-42 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

A gift is different than a reward. Eternal life is a gift. You can choose to believe the Scripture or not. The choice is yours.

    DHK,
I believe in all the written Word of God. Are you denying this one?
Can you see this scripture? ------
Colossians 3:14 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.

The reward is the inheritance of eternal life.

For you to say the reward is not eternal life is to go against the Word of God, for the scriptures plainly tells us.

Oh and by the way, synonym for gift is reward.

No, I don't deny the Scriptures. I abhor the way you take them out of context.
Gift and reward are not the same thing. They are not synonyms.
Eternal life is a gift, not a reward.
You are preaching a works based salvation.

Since you say you do not deny the scripture, let us all read you write, “Eternal life is the reward.”
The reward is an inheritance. Colossians 3:14 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

The reward is the inheritance of eternal life. Matthew 19:29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.
If gift and reward are not synonyms, then you better straighten out all Internet dictionary sites. You can start with this site.
    http://thesaurus.com/browse/gift
The Word of God says the reward is an inheritance and the inheritance is eternal life.
You are preaching a dead salvation.
Do you think it is a work for God that someone stops cheating on their wife? How is that a work for God? Do you think God needs you?
You stopping sins give you the kingdom of heaven within you. It is what changes you. It is for YOU.

    Why?
    Again, the Bible says:

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

I believe the Bible; not you.

    Colossians 3:14
I assume you mean verse 24:
Colossians 3:24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
--It is evident that the verse is speaking of the inheritance of rewards. It is written to believers, and is speaking of rewards. The entire chapter speaks of rewards. We lay up an inheritance of rewards.
Near the beginning of the chapter Paul says:

Colossians 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
--He is speaking of rewards, not eternal life. Our rewards make up our inheritance. Set your affection on things above.

    Matthew 19:29
Matthew 19:29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

He is talking to his disciples about discipleship. What do you think? Do you think you have to forsake everything you have in order to gain eternal life? Do you?? Have you done that?
Is this what what you have done?

Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

Moriah, according to your theology, if you have not followed the above instructions you do not have eternal life and are not saved. It is impossible for you to have your inheritance of "eternal life" unless you sell everything you have, give it to the poor, and go and follow Jesus--perhaps to a far off land like Saudia Arabia where so few have heard the gospel. Unless you do that you cannot be saved according to your "works" based theology.

But that is not the teaching. It is a teaching of rewards for the followers of Christ. Lay up your rewards in heaven.

    Luke 10:25
Luke 10:25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

A silly question asked by an unsaved man. Does it really need an answer. If you can't figure the answer out, then read what Jesus said.

No, not the inheritance of “reward(s)", as you say, but rather, the Bible says,” an inheritance as a reward.” It is singular "reward" and not plural "rewards."
No, it is not speaking of rewards, it is speaking of “a reward.”
Nowhere does Colossians 3:2 says rewards.
Jesus is speaking about those who have given up those things. Jesus was on earth. God came to earth in the flesh. It is a terrible thing to have Jesus in front of you, but you do not drop everything for Him. Even believers now must choose God over all things. I have heard people say that if their loved ones go to Hell, then they would go there with them than go to heaven without them. There are people who do not want to get thrown out of their home for believing in Jesus.
No, that is your misunderstanding of the scriptures that lead you to believe that. Read again what I have explained about that scripture.
Again, you do not understand the scriptures.
Show me one scripture that says that. Why do you keep saying that when not one scripture says that?
Why do you think it is a silly question? Jesus answers the man and tells him the truth.
The reward is an inheritance, and the inheritance is eternal life, that is the Word of God.

Where does it say the reward is an inheritance? Did you even read the passage???

Luke 10:26-28 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

What must I do to inherit (to gain) eternal life?
--Don't take the words of an unsaved man too literally. He was just wanting to know how to get to heaven.
    What did Jesus answer?
He told him to keep the Ten Commandments. Is that what you do to "inherit" eternal life? Is it? Be truthful!

Why do you keep denying the words of Jesus?

Jesus answered him! Did you think Jesus would not correct him if he said something false?
He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”

28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

Jesus told him to do this and he will live. Of course, I believe Jesus. You had better believe Jesus too.

Jesus knew he couldn't keep the law. He knows you can't keep it; I know you can't keep it. The Bible says you can't keep it. Why do you say you can??

Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

I can and do love the Lord my God with all my heart and with all my soul and with all my strength and with all my mind’; and, I love my neighbor as myself.

Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
