Have you ever noticed that most all of the pictures and statues of angels that we see depict women as angels?

But, in the Bible, are there actually any female angels?

Is this yet another confirmation that God places authority with males?

Do you really think angels have male reproductive organs?

    No I wasnt going there.

But they do all have male names.

Come to think of it, they did have physical relations with women on Earth before Gen 6. How did they reproduce without organs?

Should we ask the same question of God?

Angels are ontologically physical beings...always portrayed as having physical substance (though temporally transient.) God (the Father) is compositely simple in His physicality...ie he doesnt have physical parts.

I understand but I do not think that fact changes the nature or need for the question.

I posted the OP as a serious question.

I noticed yesterday at the flea market that every single picture or statue of an angel was a female. But yet, in the Bible they are all named with male names. And they are always referred to in masculine terms.

I have never done a deep study of angels but I am sure many of the pastors on here have. Hence my question.

God is spirit, and angels are spirits.

What about the angels in Gen 6?

Or the angels that came to Lot's house?

Gen. 6 doesn't mention angels. It mentions sons of God and daughters of men. The question is, who are the sons of God?

Yes Arron, that is a centuries old question. The answer would explain alot, but i guess we wont get the answer until we reach heaven.

But then, maybe in heaven we wont care what the answer is:thumbs:

Its a perfectly acceptable question. No need for it be treated with derision. Unfortunately I don't have an answer. Maybe there are no distinct secondary sex characteristics on the part of angels to definitely distinguish them as men, e.g. deeper voice, facial hair etc. Maybe they were equidistant between male and female in this regard, but the scripture writers could not process that and defaulted to calling them men, as that was the only appropriate sex in their mind for angels. But this all conjecture. (They are repeatedly described as young men though.) The question is, does the Bible say why they're always men.

    -------------

I'm thinking that for angels to be described as young men means they must have appeared very young indeed. In that era the age of maturity was very young already. I've read that many of the apostles could have been in their teens still, and are not described anywhere as young men. The blind leading the blind on this though possibly.

No, as jesus said we will be like them in heaven, not reproducing!

Would say that EVERY time an Angel showed up in bible, came in form of a male!

Jesus didn't say we wouldn't be reproducing! He said there wouldn't be marriage in Heaven!
