So the Dems want to take 11 Billion in Fed Retirement overpayment

    And give it to the post office?


    Um...how do you end up with 11 billion in overpayment for retirement?

    And then...why on earth is it even considered to be given to the post office...when Social Security is basically screwed at this point?




    These people are supposed to be our representatives. They are supposed to be smart. I'm pretty sure my 3 year old daughter could've come up with a better plan than this.

    Sidenote: I don't really have a problem with helping the USPS. I don't believe in Bailouts...and I don't believe in taking "overpayment" cash from some other intent and applying it here.

    Thank you. That is interesting. They are proposing cutting 2 to 3 billion and yet claim the loses could be about 14 billion this year. I would say this is all just more of the same failed economic of anything associated with the government.
    Until we are ready to do what is needed we will continue in this rushing downhill slide into destruction of this nation. In fact I believe we are already over the cliff and it is too late to correct with a 15.5 trillion debt, borrowing nearly 45% of every dollar we spend.
    The bailouts need to stop and they need to start running it like a business.

    I want to know, with all the cuts that have been happening the last few years, how is the Postal Service getting that far in the red on such a short basis?

    Prices have gone up, Postal workers have been let go...are they really shipping that much less stuff now that they are 14 billion in the hole?

    The postal service does provide something that no one else does. At least day to day anyways. I've never though about mailing a letter UPS. Not sure that would be feasible. So I think that the USPS needs to survive, and we need to find ways to make it happen.

    BUT...a bailout on the terms of what was done for the auto industry is not the answer. Those companies should NOT have been bailed out. They weren't the only one offering that specific product, their business model sucked...and it should've tanked.

    So unless UPS, Fed Ex...etc, are willing to get into the niche that the USPS is...it does provide a service we can't get elsewhere, correct?

    Bobby the problem is with extremely poor management. average postal employee still makes $83,000 in salary and benefits a year and they strongly defend it. I have a friend who has a route and she only works about 3 to 4 hours a day and gets paid for 8. By the way let me say that she is not ripping them off. They know this. All thye require is for her to run her route and if it takes 15 hours or 3 she gets paid the same, but it only takes her about 3 or 4 hours and that is standard.
    No business could survive with such tactics. Also the loss of regular letters being mailed is a big thing. I am old enough to remember when the postal service, the mail, was delivered twice a day during peek times of the year, like Christmas. Now that fax and email is common they have lost a large part of their revenue and have not corrected their over spending to be in accord with what they are taking in.
    The system needs a totally re-structuring changing the whole pay structure as well as the handling and delivery structure. The problem they are seeing is all because of poor management, nothing more.

    It's another way to put off bad news untill after the election. Putting 100,000 people on the streets wouldn't look good for Obama.

    It will still happen. Just later...after Obama has a free hand to do anything he wants without having to worry about being re-elected.

    Oh, I agree. I'm not sure the blame could be on anything else.

    I guess what bothers is me is how Salary's got to where they are. I'm not trying to slight government employees or postal workers. But are they really worth 85K?

    I don't make 85K, and IMO...my job is just as important as theirs, if not moreso because of the law. Not to mention I'm protecting people's futures.

    It would suck to be in a position where the government says "we can fire 100K people, or 200K people can take a salary cut.

    There is a winning solution, but people aren't going to like it.
