Should the law of levirate marriage as recorded in Deuteronomy 25:5-6 be imposed on our modern day society? Why or why not?

How about in the modern day society of the State of Israel? Why or why not?

No. We are no longer under the Law of which this is a part. Israel can do as they please as they are not Christians and have to serve God as best they can, even if it be in vain.

No, read Galatians 3:9-25. Also, the law was given because only the first born son inherited the substantial portion from his father. This was to keep the inheritance "in the family" via the oldest son almost exclusively. Wives, daughters, and other sons rarely received as much as the oldest son did. U.S. laws provide for people to leave their estate to whomever they please. Anyone can inherit today regardless of gender or relationship status to the deceased.
