There are many things that the Lord will be looking for at the judgment. I believe he will look at how we use our talents and opportunities to better the kingdom, engage in evangelism, and edify the brethren. I think a good reference passage is Lk 19:12-13 (NKJV) which reads.

Therefore He said: “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. 13 So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas,[a] and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.

We all know the story about the person with the five talents whom used his talents, and then the person with the one talent that did nothing. I believe that this parable (and many other scriptures) tell us what we should do on this earth, and how what we do will impact our rewards and responsibilities in the next life. There are some that think that paying off every debt is the most important thing in the entire universe. It is important to be financial responsible, however for those that made mistakes earlier in life, and do not have the financial resources to pay back their debts, then they need to pay back what they can. However to be honest all of us have sin issues, and grace forgives, legalism does not. None of us would have received Christ, if it were not His grace. Yes we all deserve Hell, but grace is what we needed, and by it we came to faith in Christ.

Of the things the Lord will be looking for I believe that evangelism will be one of the greatest.

Acts 1:8 (NIV) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Mark 16:15 (ESV) And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Matt 5:14-16 (ESV) You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Besides evangelism I believe that edifying and building the church is very important

Eph 4:29 (NIV) Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

1 Cor 10:23-24 (NIV) Everything is permissible”—but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible”—but not everything is constructive. 24 Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.

I believe in doing these things we will be rewarded.

Ps 62:12 (NIV) and that you, O Lord, are loving.
Surely you will reward each person
according to what he has done.

Mk 9:41 (ESV) For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward.

Rev 22:12 (ESV) Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done.

NIV says "reward" but recompense seems to be a more literal rendering of the Greek word used here.

Anyways does anyone agree or disagree with what I have said here?

Actually I believe the Judgment Seat of Jesus Christ is the Great White Throne Judgment!

I would be hard pressed to hold or suggest that one kind of service is above another. The Lord said of the widow who put in her all gave more then all who put in, so while it is a time of reward “recompense" for what we did with our lives in regards to Christ, I think some who think they deserve the greatest of rewards may very well end up with the least.

Evangelism is certainly very important. But I believe edifying the church is even more important. A truly edified and edifying church will naturally be attracting the lost.

Much of evangelism today is light on doctrine, long on method. One first has to really know the Evangel before you do the -ist part. Many evangelists remind me of the football player who tried to run the ball before he was finished catching the ball.

It probably is in direct proportion to how long they were depressed here on earth, and how many pills they took for the condition.

I agree also. Third time's a charm, huh?

I agree, but you have missed the Way of the Master people. We are not all about easy-believism and saying a prayer and having no change. The law convicts and we trust the Lord to bring the results.

    Revelation 2:1-4
    1. Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
    2. I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
    3. And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
    4. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

I agree Tom. The church at Ephesus was busy doing "stuff" but had left their first love. I have heard some preach that the "first love" of the church at Ephesus was evangelism, or at least should be for them and all churches. I believe the first love of the church must be Jesus Christ and the edifying of His Body!

Salvation is a supernatural act of God. It is not the result of someone reciting a mantra and getting dunked.

When I was in the Navy, painting over the side, I have seen sailers fall into the Norfolk harbor just to get a shot of brandy. I believe some children trot down the aisle just to get dunked. That is one problem with the Church today, an unregenerate membership.

I think most folks have a mushy view of what the Bible says happens when we physically die.

Jesus taught that at least before His resurrection the spirits of the lost went to Hades, while the spirits of the saved went to Abraham's bosom.

This suggest some sort of sheep and goats judgment at death. We also have, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, indicating an immediate judgment where the saved spiritually enter heaven and are with Jesus.

So the first question is "what day" is in view in Matthew 7:22? The day we physically die, or a judgement that comes later?

I have heard several sermons on the "Lost your first love" passage. This seems to be a favorite plug-and-play verse. The pastor gets to put in whatever he wants to emphasize as the "love". Variations I have heard, along with your evangelism one, are tithing, separation (big in the BJ churches I went to), not studying the Bible enough - or studying it "too much" (when you should be out "soul-winning").

Sort of like the misuse of Revelation 3:20 about which you had an earlier thread!
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Yep! The cart-driven horse sermon. "I want to preach on X. What verse can I use?"
