    Lady,

I think a hawkish Romney will beat Obama any day.

His 'non-hawkishness' is the ONLY thing I appreciate about him, and I'm NOT alone on that:

Poll: Voters prefer Obama's foreign policy to his economics

"Voters are inclined against Obama's handling of the economy - 52% disapprove, while 43% approve. The numbers are nearly reversed for his handling of foreign policy."

Insiders Poll: Obama Foreign Policy a Reelection Boost

"Wide swaths of political insiders, including even some Republicans, view President Obama's foreign policy resume' as an aid to his reelection efforts, even as most indicated the issue would take a back seat to the economy in the fall."

IMO, if he succeeds in his efforts to peacefully resolve the nuclear situation with Iran he'll be extremely popular for it. But of course there's always those right wingnut doomsday endtime crackpots that froth at the bit to bring on Armageddon who will never wish him well in his efforts for a peaceful resolution.

I am growing ever more skeptical of Mitt Romney. Radical building of the military is what started this run away debt we have during the Reagan years. We are continuing our turn from God as a nation and relying on might which is the same mistake that David made which only brought judgment.
We are currently about 16 trillion in debt. One trillion is a million dollars a day, every day, for 2739 years. We are 16 times that in debt. We are essentially bankrupt living on other people money or funny money that we print ourselves. Hyper inflation is close down the road. Personally I do not believe that we can correct what is coming which is the destruction of this nation as we know it and become much like a third world country. However if there is a chance to correct what is taking place it cannot be by spending more.
Another issue that worries me is Mitt Romney's link to Donald Trump. This too sends up red flags. As much as I want the current President out of office Mitt Romney may very well lose my vote and I believe many more if he continues on the path he is traveling.

What are your reasons in not believing in a US strong military? That is what I am getting from your post. I do agree that we are heading off the cliff in national debt, and I do agree that there has been so much waste in our military and not enough oversight. I disagree with your exegesis about King David based on that passage, which we could discuss on another thread.

I agree. The more I learn about Romney the less likely I am to vote for him. At this point, I've decided not to vote for either Romney or Obama.

Mitt was not my choice and is not my prefered but I will vote and I will not vote for a man that, before his election, the first time, admitted to the military that he was against an America that could defend itself. I will vote against Obama and any worm that that votes for him is, in my honest opinion, not thinking about his children and grandchildren.

free, being a Combat Veteran, I know, for a fact, that freedom is not free! The national debt? Cease paying billions, each month, to countries like Pakistan, Syria, Jordan, Sudan and many others! They hate our guts and it shear stupidity to pay the blackmail money to them. Support only our allies (i.e. Israel, England, Germany) and we can pay our debt in a couple of years! And from that point become filthy rich and even pay our soldiers the income they really deserve!

[SIZE=+0]I did not say I am not for a strong military. I am against adding to the debt to increase our might. It would do little good to end up like North Korea. I really do not think you understand the dire condition we are in as a nation. We are living a lie and it will catch up with us soon if we do not stop this out of control spending.
The size of the government has doubled in the last 10 years and is now unsustainable. WE are headed for a serious fall unless we make some serious changes and to be honest my opinion it is to late.

[SIZE=+0][SIZE=+0]Bill I am afraid that you are like most people in this country and you have no clue just how deep in debt we are. If it were possible to shut the government down totally and did not spend another dime and only take in taxes the debt could not be paid off in a couple years.
While I agree that we need to stop funding nations who hate us even that would not began to touch the debt we are in. The things that it would take to correct the debt would take close to 20 years of serious sacrifice and hardship on the backs of the American people and we are just not up to it. To fix the debt the military would have to take a pay cut not an increase. NASA would have to be done away with and all its space exploration. Medicare would have to be dumped, Social Security would have to revert back to how it was set up in the beginning and stop all survivor and dependent payments, all tax breaks would have to be done away with, all government pensions would have to be frozen all money spent on research stopped as well as the wasted dollars on things like PBS, and other organizations. Even more cuts then these would have to happen to fix the debt. There just is no longer an easy fix IF it can be fixed at all. The sad truth is we will experience all this anyway, but when that happens it will not be to fix the debt as we become a like third world nation.

As for Mitt Romney and my vote it will depend on what he says and who he aligns himself with in the next few months. While I will absolutely not vote for this current President it is possible I not vote for Mitt Romney either. In the primary in Texas in early voting I did not vote for Mitt Romney and the same may happen in the general election. It all boils down to him and what I see and hear from him in the next few months.

For the Dubya lovers, Romney should please you well:

"Romney is loath to mention Bush on the campaign trail, for obvious reasons, but today they sound like ideological soul mates on foreign policy. Listening to Romney, you’d never know that Bush left office bogged down by two unpopular wars that cost America dearly in blood and treasure. Of Romney’s forty identified foreign policy advisers, more than 70 percent worked for Bush. Many hail from the neoconservative wing of the party, were enthusiastic backers of the Iraq War and are proponents of a US or Israeli attack on Iran. Christopher Preble, a foreign policy expert at the Cato Institute, says, “Romney’s likely to be in the mold of George W. Bush when it comes to foreign policy if he were elected.” On some key issues, like Iran, Romney and his team are to the right of Bush. Romney’s embrace of the neoconservative cause—even if done cynically to woo the right—could turn into a policy nightmare if he becomes president."

Total budgeted defense spending is approximately $.9 trillion; budgeted health care is $1.1 trillion, and that's without Obamacare currently in place. Welfare is at $.7 trillion.

So free, what military programs do you propose cutting? Or do you just propose cutting the paychecks of the military personnel?

This thread is a good illustration of the dilemma this nation has put itself in with the two choices we have. I have decided by a very slim margin that a vote for Romney is better than an action that will help reelect Obama, like being involved with a third party. Lady Eagle and I have had long and intense discussions on this before I changed my mind.

I have a couple of questions. Where were all of you who do not want to vote for Romney now when I was posting thread after thread about why not to vote for Romney, for at least the last six months?

My other comment is that those who want to cut defense more often than not never served on day.

Th1bill is correct. Our true allies are few and far between. I would make the list Israel, England, France, Australia, New Zeeland, and Canada.

    Wilco.

(for you non-military types: "Will Comply." Not supposed to be used with "Roger," as the two mean essentially the same thing; so saying "Roger, wilco" is redundant. That's your military communication education tip of the day. No charge.)

There were a couple; but most of them were against Romney on the basis of being mormon.

In the meantime, I'd like to ask these people: Who are they going to vote for? What other viable candidates are out there?

I don't like Romney. I think we'll be singing the same song we sang with Clinton, Bush, and Obama: "Meet the new boss; same as the old boss."

BUT - if I can't stop the tide, I prefer to slow it down. So now I have to strategize how I'm going to slow down what Obama's been doing. And I can't slow it down by voting for a 3rd-party candidate that has no chance of winning.

So you can vote your conscience, and I honestly won't think any less of you; but when you say that, ask yourself if it's conscionable to vote for the "right person" but who can't win, and therefore taking a vote away from the person who can beat Obama and slow down the downhill slide. If you can tell your kids that you voted for the right guy, even though it meant you knew you'd be sentencing your kids to even more of the same of what we're facing; if you're good with that, I've got nothing against you.

    Saltys tip

Over and out (for end of radio communication) is totally incorrect.
"Over" means "I expect a reply"
"Out" means "I am ending the transmission - and I do not want a reply.

So if someone says "Over and Out" - it means they are a democrat!
