Did anyone see the movie "Joyful Noise" with Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton?

Is your chior anything like the chiors shown in that movie?

Have you ever been to a service where the chior was like the chiors shown in that movie?

I must admit that I have never seen such a chior and am wondering if they exist or is it all just Hollywood make-believe.

Never seen the movie. Can you describe the choir?

I was in a black church once, and the music was much like that.

My brother and his family saw that movie. But would love to see it myself.

My wife enjoyed it, but I personally would not recommend it.

    The characters were inconsistent.

The chior songs were secular songs pretending to be worship.

The worst for me was the unacceptable and sinful behavior that was simply accepted and even joked about (extramarital s@x). But then again what else can you expect from Hollywood.

I was just wondering if there really are any church chiors like the one depicted in this movie.

No, never saw one like that. However, my church choir does secular music on very rare occasions. For example, we sang "The Star Spangled Banner" on the Sunday before Memorial Day. Usually at our Christmas concert we'll do a song or two that's about Christmas, but isn't really religious. For example, we did "The Spirit of the Season" from the movie The Polar Express during our Christmas concert. Also, for Memorial Day last year we sang "Hymn to the Fallen" from the movie Saving Private Ryan.

We tend to work on a wide variety of music. Lately, our choir director has been on a Prestonwood/ Bradley Knight kick and we've been working on a few a capella pieces, including an artsy-fartsy eight-part arrangement of "A Mighty Fortress is our God".

You can google "joyful noise, soundtrack" and see a list of the songs in the movie.

"Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson and "Maybe I'm Amazed" by the Beatles and "Higher" by Sly Family Stone to name a few examples.

All of these songs were supposed sung by the chior in the movie as "worship songs".
