Are Southern Baptists proud of John Edward's admission?

He says that God is not through with him, so what possible "ministry" will he be allowed to fulfill in the future?

Perhaps he will become president of a SBC university - maybe Liberty. :)

What kind of questions are these? Are you trying to imply something about the SBC?

    Why would you post this?

    Why not ask questions?

    He is SB.

He comes from a long family history of active SB involvement.

His father is a deacon in the SB church.

He tells of his life choices being sinful and yet expects that God is not through with him.

You don't see the local assemblies taking any church discipline.

He ran for president of the U. S. and states that God isn't through with him.

In light of his public confession, public aspirations, and his charismatic effect on others, his lack of rebuke from the church, isn't it possible that he will now be used of God to run a SBC university?

Would Liberty not be enhanced by him as president?

What else could he be used for?

What does John Edward's lack of character have to do with a deacon from a SB local church? Since I serve as one, what is it you are trying to say? Why would local assemblies issue church discipline? Usually, a person only belongs to one assembly. What does any of this have to do with SBC seminaries?

It seems that the only purpose of this thread is to demean an organization that many local New Testement churches work through to tell the Good News.

Why is it you compare and mix corrupt politicians to the ministry of a Holy God?

Church discipline is only for those who are members of a local church. There is no reason or way for another church to pursue Church discipline on Edwards. The only church who would be able to is the church he is a member of.

I'm disappointed in your questions. Edwards is a man of little morals and terrible theology. How would he fit in at any of these places?

BTW, Edwards is no longer a Southern Baptist. As I recall it he left because our convention didn't agree with him politically. We were too conservative.

I did not see what is referred to in the OP, but it's interesting how people in trouble with the law suddenly find religion and invoke the name of the Almighty when the heat is on.

I have removed the original 10 point post because it isn't worth the space on the board.

Rather than the thread exploring areas with possible application and helps, it seems to have been derailed.

God can use a humble, repentant man in any ministry He chooses, because He is God. I am ever reminded of how God mightily used the Apostle Paul, even though he murdered Christians. Still today God uses men and women, men such as Chuck Colson.

God can, and will, use men and women as He sees fit for His glory and purpose. I don't think it's our place to judge whether or not they're worthy to work for God in any purpose.

From the article, "John Edwards, who was raised a devout Southern Baptist and is now a Methodist"

I love the way many of you "good Baptists" accept an apology. I guess the saying is true that we do shoot our own wounded.

Certainly, "God can, and will, use men and women as He sees fit..."

But look at the example given by the two you mentioned.

Paul: Traveled to Jerusalem to confer and get approval from the apostles about the ministry God had given.

Chuck: After his salvation, immediately engaged "The Family" (I think that is what the group called them self). The met and prayed with and for each other. Colson sought their advice and wisdom from the time he was converted to his last day.

It is our place to make judgment of fitness for service and leadership. That is exactly what Paul instructed the local assemblies are to do and not avoid.

I question the statements Edwards made because of the historical narcissistic attitudinal evidence of his past. Had he truly been repentant, he would not have waited for a court step response which he could sound good and manipulate the press.
