There will always be a middle class because by definition there is always a middle.

The smart and hard working will always rise above the bottom because of those two virtues alone.

Take everything away from everyone - redistribute it equally - and in very short order some will have nothing and others will be rich.

I voted no as far as obama is concerned. As far as the Lord is concerned and His blessings on us, we are not middle class, we are very rich, very, very rich and He will continue to provide. Jehovah Jireh.

"Middle class" is a social class that has nothing to do with numbers. "Middle class" means "better than working class." The end of the middle class is a done deal. Another 4 years and most of the fools who think they are middle class will know they are working serfs if they have a job.

Interesting question. Don't know. I suppose most who put their surplus into the market were wiped but doctors and other professionals still had their knowledge. Doctors got paid in chickens but at least ate chicken.

WW2 bailed us out years before Pearl.

The max unemployment rate was 25% - which means 75% of the population were still working.

This by no means is to make light of the 25% but many people were still working.

Obama touts he wants to Fundamentally change America, if given four more years what will that mean? What are our Fundamentals in America?

I would say "The Constitution" for one. Also we were founded on Christian principles no matter what many say, and Capitalism is our economic philosophy.

Now he has tried to remove Capitalism by inserting his Marxist views. He loathes Christianity and has even stated the Constitution is a burden. Heck he has told us what he intends and till 45% of Americans like him. As I have always said from day one, we don't live in Kansas anymore. God help us.

Poncho has a very good point. It is going to be a rough ride regardless of who wins. Maybe the Republicans will be less rough. One thing does surprise me from many of the posts. Several months ago when we were all arguing about Romney, before he became the nominee, most thought he was the best chance of beating Obama. That belief does not come through in these posts. If everyone is that worried about Romney possibly losing, maybe that should have been thought out before the Republicans nominated him. I am voting for him regardless. It is just not a good vote.

Don't sweat it the only thing middle management puppets like Obama and Romney run is their mouths. The real power is higher up the food chain.

    >Middle class according to whose standard (of what qualifies as)?

Semi- Officially, middle class is 15 (or 20) percentile either side of median family income (or net assets).

But mean (average) family assets is roughly ten times median family assets. Thus the middle family is within the official poverty level depending on the state in question. The average family has over $300K in net assets.
