    I dont have a big problem with Paul taking SS -WHEN HE RETIRES! -

    I supposed that small check for being in Congress is not sufficent.

    How does he collect a 6 figure salary with full benefits AND ss? My father is only allowed to make a couple hundred dollars each week and collect ss.

    I'm sure, as a flight surgeon in the USAF, and as a well paid doctor in private practice for a great many years, he contributed, against his will, a hefty amount to S.S.. Why is it inconsistent, when the government returns his own money to him ? Should he refuse it ? Really ?

    His stance would be defined as "nobody would be forced to contribute."

    You Romney guys better cross yer fingers.

    Heres the scoop
    Paul is a big critic of SS ( as well as other govt programs).
    Since he is not dependent on SS as his Congressional pay should be sufficient - he should hold off on SS based on principal.

    What about his getting back all of the money he paid into the SS system over the years (or, if he was self-employed, the self employment taxes he paid)?

    Social Security itself is a rip-off. Even the average wage earner would be better off if he'd be able to use the money that's involuntarily deducted from his paycheck for FICA and deposit that into an IRA and/or a 401(k) account. Imagine what he'd get back if he could do that over a 40-year span.

    If Rep. Paul really wanted to take a principled stand regarding his income, let him refuse to receive his salary as a congressman or give it all to charity. Fat chance of that happening.

    Hold off on getting his own money back, that he didn't want taken in the first place ? Are you serious ?
