PBA may file lawsuit

    Up until 30 June - security at the Syracuse,NY Hancock airport was handled by the Syracuse,NY police dept. Most of the officers were on overtime.

    The cost to the city was about $60 per hour. This cost was, of course passed on to the airlines and ultimately to the consumer.

    The city has just hired a private security agency to take over duties. Many of the employees will be off duty police officers - the same who were making $60 directly from the city. Their pay now from their new employer will be about $35 an hour.

    The PBA wants to take this to court - in part because they say off duty cops have no authority to make arrests.

    ps - many in Syracuse drive to Rochester to fly as it is much cheaper. Our mayor says this will help reduce costs of flights out of the Salt City.

    This sounds like a good and wise move ion the part of the city. If the off duty officers really cannot make arrests under their charter then they do have the right to pick up a phone and call those who do just like the TSA does or have an on duty officer in place at all times to make arrests if necessary. This was a good call and the officers are showing their greed. The love of money is the root of all sorts of evil and the officers clearly are proving it. Thumbs up to the Mayor for standing up for the people and against those who would rape the system for their own greed.By the way 35 dollars an hour is over the top. It should be closer to 20.
