Just how much does gas cost in other countries? (in US dollars and gallons)

    12 cents in In Venezuela,

    France pays $3.82 + $5.40 taxes = $9.24

and in the US in CONUS the high is DC @ 3.75 down to a low in SC of 2.97

Americians pay an average of $0.489 in taxes for each gallon of gas. ( 18.4 cents is federal - the rest would be State or Commonwealth and local taxes)

What I really don't understand is how gas can jump from $2.74 to $3.00 a gallon literally overnight.

Because of a good exchange rate we are only paying about $7.50 a gallon right now.

Obama gets reelected and they will double over night! Extreme you say??? Extreme you say???

I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.

Barry Goldwater, 1964 Acceptance speech. How right he was!

Maybe some of you were old enough to remember this quip that made the rounds c. 1966:

"They told me that if I voted for Goldwater there'd be a war in Vietnam......Sure enough.....I voted for Goldwater, and there WAS a war in Vietnam!!!!"

    OR,
I believe the cheap gas prices that might benefit Obama is more than counteracted by the unemployment rate and the general state of the economy.

That reminds me, I was still under voting age that election, a teen, but my parents had a Goldwater sign, several in fact, in the front yard. One night someone pelted our house with eggs, then about a week later, someone stole the signs. I have always wondered what kind of a President he would have made.

From what I have read, I think he would have been like Nixon.

Because gasoline is a commodity the true cost (adjusted for exchange rate) is the same in most every major seaport. The retail price is mostly a matter of taxes and exchange rate.

Sad to say during BMG's latter years he did come very close to swallowing the some very extreme fringe of the libertarian element.

Don't get me wrong....I also can appreciate some of the philosopical theories of a few of those in the Libertarian Camp. EX: To me, Ron Paul seems to be right in some of his assertions [re: the fed, etc.]. It's just when you get to actually implementing those policies that I can see some problems developing....Shades of the DOJ's ill-fated "Fast & Furious" Plot you might say.

BMG turning into a Nixon?? I kinda doubt that, but then truth is often stranger than fiction....Anything could have happened, & maybe it would have in BMG's case....Who among us BB mortals knows??

Down here in South Carolina {one of 4 states for Goldwater} we didn't realize the rest of the country was so backward. Goldwater was the first Republican conservative on the national scene since Taft of Ohio. I had the privilege of being at the dinner where Thurmond switched parties to support Goldwater. Goldwater came to our county to address the Republicans after the election.

I believe Goldwater had the potential to make a good president. Compared to the crook who won he would have been exceptional. Of course with the dems controlling both houses????? One legacy of Goldwater was Reagan. I remember hearing his speech supporting Goldwater, outstanding!

Goldwater was no Nixon. Nixon was no Conservative, he was a big government person. It was Goldwater who led the Republican Senators to the White House to demand his resignation.

Just a clarification, Goldwater carried 6 states in 64, his home state of Arizona, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.

I remember way back in 1966 having the opportunity to meet BMG when (as a 20 YO USAF E-3 stationed in Tucson AZ). The press of the crowd assembled in the ballroom & adjacent foyer only allowed this poor soul to get nothing more than a "Jay-Leno-type-touch-the-palm-of-each-others-hand" sort of handshake. Back then BMG appeared to be more in tune w/what I personally at that time (given my only a few months experience in the Lord) thought was "doing the right [no pun intended] thing."

I seriously doubt whether BMG ever had a "saving encounter" w/our Lord. Of course none of us were/are in any position to know for sure whether he actually did.

Looking back from a now 40+ yr in the Lord vantage point, I'm inclined to think that BMG's standing w/our Lord probably mirrored what Festus and/or King Agrippa felt about the apostle Paul in the latter part of Acts 26.

Say..........How did we get from the price of gas to BMG's spiritual state anyway??

    Who was that masked man?

    Oh yeah.....'twas me, warn't it!!

OK, time to bid this thread a bonny fare-thee-well and ride off in the dust on to another thrilling episode of "The Lone Ranger Strikes Again"!!!!!

[Sorry 'bout that, Salty and friends. Oh yes, BTW, I'm trying to get back on PS. Will see how successful my weak attempts at trying to make a stab at it really are!! :wavey:]

Well technically it doesn't. It may change that much over night at any individual station, or stations in an area, but the supplier price does not change that dramatically from one day to the next. What happens many times is that if one station sees a competitor change others also change theirs.
Also it has to be remembered that the average station only gets supplied once a week or longer so at the time of the delivery the change takes place depending on the delivery price and accounts for the possibility of several daily changes to be seen in one deliveryor what seems like one day.
