I thought I would beat my buddy CTB to the punch and post this.

    http://www.baptistboard.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=23

The only thing is I have a different take. CTB will say Romney had no right to use the music (which he did not). My take is that this sheds doubt on Romney's judgement for using nothing but pure noise as a theme song.

Hmm, reporters are fired if they break the copyright law. Professors are fired if they break the copyright law. Will the Republicans fire Romney, the law breaker?

Good grief, are his handlers so ignorant that they do not know you are supposed to get permission for the use of copyrighted material?

And maybe he should be fired for his poor taste in music.

Maybe it is that the very rich are above the law. What say ye?

    Good grief!!

Doesn't anyone actually read anything?

As the article states the Romney campaign is covered by their Blanket License.

A Blanket License authorizes the playing or performing of all songs in its collection as many times and as often as wanted with one single license.

There was no illegal use here.

    No "law breaking".

    No violation of copyright.

I'm sure, but he should dump it so as not to have the issue. It is a dumb distraction.

Well, that takes us to another thing pointed out in the article.

The campaign didn't play the song at the event.

The song was being played while they were setting up for the event.

This band is just looking for publicity.

What possible difference does it make?

It is a song. That's all - just a song.

They had a Blanket License to play any of about 8 or 9 million songs.

    It is a stupid non-issue.

How is Romney supposed to know which bands are going to object or not object to random songs being played at his events?

Is Romney supposed to go through an 8 or 9 million long song list and say -" Play this one and this one but don't play this one while you're setting up the chairs"?

That is right is is a stupid non-issue. Romney should say he will not play it anymore and put the issue to bed.

    Here is an idea.

The company that put together the Blanket License agreement should sue the band for non-compliance with the contract...

Because no doubt the band got paid in order to have their songs included on the Blanket License and now they are trying to prevent someone who paid for the use from playing the song.

His spokesperson did, "but we will not play it again," said Henneberg."

Also for those who mentioned Obama, from the same article "And, during his 2008 campaign, soul singer Sam Moore asked then-senator Obama to stop using his song "Soul Man."

It's pretty sad when something like this becomes an issue for debate...really folks???
