My pastor has been teaching for several months on The Great Commission (Matt 28: 18-19) and Christ last words to the Church (Acts1; 8) especially the part about making disciples. He stated that the term Christian was mentioned three (3) times in the scripture and the word disciple two hundred fifty (250). Personally this has challenged me. At lunch today I asked several members of my SS Class if the question was asked, "How many of you have presented the Gospel or the Plan of Salvation to a lost person in the last 12 months" (passing out tracts or holding up John 3; 16 at a sporting event dont count). I must admit that I would have to answer no and we agreed that yes answers would be probably 1 in 100

If you are one you are both. If you are not both you are not neither.

I am of the impression that Disciples are no more. That Disciples were appointed/selected for a specific purpose for a specific time.

I understand how the title word is being presented here but I would consider it a misnomer and not really appropriate for one who witnesses for Christ.

No harm intended but in my humble opinion it's a self-appointed title. The Most Honorable Screwy Louie Farrakhan has Disciples.

Yes, I know..., that wasn't appropriate...,

Are you, by chance, a member of North Point Community Church?

I am not one of the original 12 disciples of course, but I am most certainly am a disciple of Jesus. All of us should be.

We are learners of Christ. We learn from Him and desire for Him to live his life in and through us. That means we are disciples as far as I am concerned.

There are three parts to the Great Commission: evangelization, baptizing, and teaching. Disciples don't just happen, they are discipled. New convert classes are one way to encourage baptism and teach. But if we win new converts, the best way is to follow up with them ourself if possible, or point them to a place where they can be discipled if not. I am a disciple because someone else cared enough to encourage me to be baptized and then to teach me how to study the bible.
