I agree with the defunding of NASA. How does that mean I don't respect Neil Armstrong? I don't have to agree with him on NASA to respect what he and those behind him were able to accomplish.

I do have a bit of a tough time with the fact that Neil Armstrong is singled out almost like he did the job all by himself. It was the 'luck of the draw' that sent him out of the LEM first.

This topic is yet another example of the petty attacks on a very weak and ineffective president. There is more attention paid to this kind of stuff then his assuming the power to kill US citizens by executive kill order. I don't understand that.

 

One of the reasons I respect Neil Armstrong was his desire to remain a private person despite his accomplishments. Compare that with Buzz Aldrin on "Dancing with the Stars" and knocking someone out in an airport. I agree with the last part of your post. We put Obama in every event that comes along. It detracts from the campaign and the clock is ticking.

I agree with your statement about the defunding of NASA (probably another thread) but probably for a different reason. First of all, it should be a private endeavor. Secondly, as much as I admire the moon landings, and exploring the planets with mechanized devices, the whole program has been squandered by the government. We land on the moon in 1969. If the government is going to fund the program, why have we made such little progress in 43 years. We should have colonies on Mars and beyond for the money we have spent.

One positive thing about the space program is the technology it has developed that we use everyday, such as the complex IC chip.

Already, some aerospace jobs have been lost and these highly skilled engineers, etc., are unemployed or employed in another capacity rather than using their skills they were educated for.

Rather than change NASA into an outreach for muslims, rather than the US having to take a back seat to other countries in the field we successfully pioneered in, rather than some other nation being on the cutting edge of technology (and much of our technology has come from the space program and military), why not cut funding to countries who hate us and restore American jobs in this industry? Those jobs are not the only ones lost, there are thousands that are dependent upon this industry for survival.

To think it was a Democrat, JFK, who promised we would walk on the moon, he no doubt would turn over in his grave if he knew how the present Democratic party and their leader has done to squash many dreams and aspirations of American youth and those who have worked so hard to achieve the goals of the now (under obama) defunct NASA.

 

Why would small government people support the spending of our tax dollars on space exploration? It goes totally contrary to the small government free enterprise concepts so espoused in conservative circles. Of course President Kennedy would propose this - it was a massive government expense where they could spend whatever they wanted and force the taxpayer to pick up the tab.

One of the few good things this administration has done is to get government out of space programme and allow the free market to take its place. I am all for SpaceX and other private companies reaching for the stars!
