Most on the right have fully supported government run NASA and attack the president for defunding the programme. Well, actually Congress had to the defunding, but we'll leave that for now.

My question is this - why should the government force taxpayers to invest in space exploration and not force them to invest in health care?

We are not required to buy our own space vehicle or pay a fine.

Never mentioned Obamacare - and we don't even have the possibility of opting out when it comes to investing in space. They just take it whether we like it or not.

Other than Obamacare how has the government forced taxpayers to invest in healthcare?

The issue is that many conservatives oppose any forced taxpayer investment in health care yet support forced taxpayer investment in space sciences. That just doesn't seem consistent.

    Sounds like a strawman.

Can you show sources for your belief that "many conservatives oppose any forced taxpayer investment in health care"?

Other than the resistance to the Obamacare individual mandate that is - which you say this discussion is not about.

Its really simple, lets not get off track - should taxpayers be forced to invest in the space programme? Should they be forced to invest in health care?

My opinion is 'no' to both.

Yea, that happens when the premise to the question is incorrect.

Your question is a poor one...

Besides that I answered it in my first post.

Okay - let me simplify. Forget the vagueness and poor wording in the O/P.

    1) Should taxpayers be forced to invest in space exploration?
    2) Should taxpayers be forced to invest in health care?

    My own response

    1) No
    2) No

    No and No...

But why only these two items?

What is your point with this OP?

Do you object to "taxpayers being forced to invest in" every item in the federal budget?

Or are there items which you support "taxpayers being forced to invest in"?

If so what is the basis for your discernment?

I would like to amend my answer...

Yes, there are areas of healthcare which I believe that "taxpayers should be forced to invest in" (to use your loaded pharse).

An example of such an expenditure would be the Center for Disease Control.

Yes, there are areas of the space program which I believe that "taxpaers should be forced to invest in" such as the development, manufacture, launch and operation of defense necessary satellites.

Not to run off topic, (but the title of your thread is Query on forced tax-payer investment) but taxpayers are forced to pay for many things besides Obamacare.

Why should taxpayers be forced to bail out the auto industry?

Why should taxpayers be forced to provide foreign aid to countries who hate us?

Why should taxpayers be forced to provide salaries of presidential appointed czars and their staffs?

Why should taxpayers be forced to fund Planned Parenthood and abortion on demand?

Why should taxpayers be forced to provide Viagra for prison inmates?

Why should taxpayers be forced to provide birth control pills for women?

Why should taxpayers be forced to fund Solyndra (and lose millions) and other corporate cronyism of obama?

Why should taxpayers be forced to fund the failed Cash for Clunkers obama scheme?
