Michelle Obama Presents Course: 'Supermarket Shopping 101'

(CNSNews.com) - As part of her anti-obesity Let's Move campaign, First Lady Michelle Obama is now presenting a brief online course: “Supermarket Shopping 101.”

The course, which now appears on the letsmove.gov website, provides novice shoppers with tips such as “steer clear of the cookie, snack and soda aisle.”

“Supermarket Shopping 101: Read This Before You Hit the Grocery Store,” written by Lisa Cericola, was first published among the materials the first lady presented online last week when she was a "guest editor" at iVillage.com. Now, it has been republished on the Let’s Move blog.

As CNSNews.com previously reported, iVillage.com, which featured Mrs. Obama as a guest editor, also features graphic sex tips, including from prostitutes.

Under guidance on “making healthy choices,” the article offers healthy snack options, such as: “plain popcorn, frozen edamame, nuts, dried fruit, low-fat yogurt, hummus and raw veggies or salsa and baked tortilla chips.”

Mrs. Obama continued: “I would start in the frozen--no, I would go over to the far right aisle in Dominick's and work my way up. And the last thing I would do was the produce section and get all the vegetables and fruits and all that, and then get right into the line. And I stayed on the outer aisle.”

“And if you stay at the outer aisles ... you try to avoid going in and getting the processed, packaged foods,” she said.

How nice of the "Queen Bee" to give us tips on grocery shopping, especially considering over 45 million Americans are on food stamps! Talk about out of touch!

Evidently, Queen Michelle doesn't realize the prices of groceries keep going up (since she is well fed on our tax dollars and doesn't see people in the real world struggling just to feed their families because her husband has helped to wreck our economy and millions are out of work). And, evidently the Queen doesn't realize that produce and fruit (especially fruit) and meat that she's pushing get to be pretty pricey on tight budgets for families, and the cheapest foods that stretch the furthest are those nasty things called carbohydrates - things like Ramen noodles, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, etc. And canned tuna in oil.

Good heavens, I wonder how generations of Americans have managed to grocery shop before Michelle got self appointed to be the Mother Superior of all of us lowly beings. What a snob.

CNSNews.com) - "Let's Move," Michelle Obama's food-and-fitness project, is going local -- because childhood obesity is a problem "that can't be solved just at the national level," Health and Human Service Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said.

The first lady and Sebelius on Wednesday announced the "next chapter" of "Let's Move," which calls on local officials in the nation's cities, towns and counties to "focus on improving the health of their communities."

Among other things, the administration wants local elected leaders to "commit to increasing participation in the School Breakfast Program and the National School Lunch program."

These so-called “play streets” allow children and their families to run, walk, bike or play outside without worrying about traffic. Sebelius said the BlueCross BlueShield Association has agreed to fund Play Street scholarships in 10 cities and towns across the country between now and October 2013 to create at least four Play Streets in each city or town.

The nation’s largest cities, including New York, Chicago and Philadelphia, already have summertime play street programs.

Now in addition to her great revamped school lunch program in which billions of dollars of food is being thrown away in school cafeteria garbage cans (paid for by our tax dollars) because the kids won't eat it - now we have Michelle barging in on local governments. I'm sure the seniors and others who have to park their cars 4-6 blocks away will be thrilled with this idea, not to mention the patrol cars and firefighters. We all know that these public places are breeding grounds for gangs hanging out, drugs, perverts, and more.

This woman wasn't on the Obama-Biden ticket as I recall, but assumes she has the "right" to intrude in our lives. Disgusting.

Oh, I forgot to mention, she's such a hypocrite - she stuffs her face with lobster and fattening fries, etc., all the while condescending to the sheeple what they should or should not eat !!

"We had a ball. We experienced the magic of our first fried Twinkie," Mrs. Obama said, to applause from the crowd.

"Yes, we did," she said, to more applause.

Turning to the President, Mrs. Obama engaged in some cute banter: "Even though you say I don't let you eat them, you eat what you want."

True. The President has been nothing if not an aggressive eater, routinely getting criticism for consuming foods his wife suggests be limited as part of her signature Let's Move! campaign.

"We're all very jealous that Barack got to go back to the fair without us last week," Mrs. Obama continued (though the visit was two days before her speech).

"Did you have a fried Twinkie?" she asked her husband.

"Pork chop and beer," the President responded, to laughter and applause.

"He's so pleased with himself," Mrs. Obama told the crowd.

"It was good. It was tasty," the President said. More applause.

As the President and Mrs. Obama concluded his bus tour hours later, Mrs. Obama again told her State Fair story to a big crowd, and again mentioned fried Twinkies.

"We experienced our very first fried Twinkie on a stick," Mrs. Obama announced, and was again rewarded with applause.

Take that, con critics.

Top White House aides enjoy fried Twinkies...and fried everything
It must be noted that while the President was avoiding fried Twinkies in Iowa and the First Lady was taking heat for prohibiting that enjoyment, top White House aides were freely indulging. During Tuesday's press gaggle in Iowa, Press Secretary Jay Carney and Traveling Press Secretary Jen Psaki gave a full recap of all the junk food that had been consumed at the Iowa State Fair.

The two told reporters that White House Senior Advisor David Plouffe, Campaign Senior Advisor David Axelrod, Deputy Chief of Staff Alyssa Mastromonaco, head speechwriter Jon Favreau, and the President's confidential assistant Eugene Kang were eating all the deep-fried stuff they could get their hands on. Fried Oreos were dubbed a special favorite, washed down with beer.

"We really did it up at the fair," said Psaki, explaining that she and the gang "probably ate half a dozen turkey legs, a dozen fried Oreos, four fried Snickers, fried Twinkies, fried ho-hos."

I see we have nothing to attack the President with, so we worry over shopping tips from the first lady. :laugh: What does this have to do with the problems facing the nation?

She is very correct that the outside of the grocery store is the healthiest and even on a budget, you can still primarily shop there. It is better for you than processed carbs and if some would learn that, they wouldn't need healthcare. I think it's great that she has addressed the issue. As for the junk food, just by looking at the family, I can guess that they don't eat that often.

Actually I have seen many well founded criticisms of this admin made right here on this board and else where. This is just one of many.
