Because corn is used to make ethanol which is about 30% less efficient than gasoline the price of meat, vegetables, transportation, you name it is going up. This is only one example! And some wonder why the country is on the downhill slide.

Ethanol accounts for about 40% of corn use in this country. Feeding livestock about 33%. Human consumption of corn is about 15% of its use. The problem is that the ethanol lobby has farm state congressional reps sold on the idea that ethanol is an important alternative fuel, when the reality is, as you've pointed out, it is inefficient.

We should either cut back on mandated ethanol requirements or eat less meat. I like eating meat so I say the EPA should waive the ethanol production requirements for this year and next year. I wonder why no politician isn't talking about this?

In OR the state subsidized the building of wind turbines, the state subsidizes the operations of wind turbines, and now the turbine companies have talked the hydro electric people to pay for excess turbine power that they do not need. By the way the hydro people are supported by most of the tax payers that use electricity.

We built them, we run them and we pay for them to sit idle. The company reaps the profits.

Yep, situation normal - government is out of control.

My understanding is that an Environmental Impact Statement is required for major Federal actions. I wonder if an EIS was prepared for use of Ethanol or wind turbines!

Diverting corn to alcohol production is making the rich, richer and the poor, poor, poorer - the bottom line of all legislation for the last 30 years.
