There's something sobering about finishing up speaking with an older man who is facing serious health problems and serious relationship problems...then turning back to your computer to finish arranging the piano accompaniment for a song for the Sunday worship service. It makes it seem like not really an important Job at all.

I believe it is, however, and partially reveal that a minister's roles mirror the Functions of Christ as, Prophet, priest, and King. As priests, we minister directly to the lives of other people...as prophets, we use spoken word, and song to proclaim the message of God...as Kings, we must take care of the logisitics so that priestly ministry can be efficient and effective.

One of the hardest lessons for me to learn is to say "no". I am a driven type A kind of guy. That being the case I am prone to just jumping in and doing what needs to be done. It has taken a lot of God working to let things go, and let them be done by someone who will do them a different way.

As a leader this is very important. As we read in Ephesians 4 a big part of my job is helping others prepare for, and live out, their own callings according to their own gifts. We are parts of the body, not the whole body. Every part, every person, is important and every job is essential. That does not mean we everything has the same priority at all times. We have to learn to sort out the days business and learn what can be delegated and to who it should be delegated.

Yes, and those gifts of the Spirit listed in 1 Cor 12 and Rom 12 for the faithful edification of the others.
