    Well, on this 495th celebration of the day when Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the church door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, may you rejoice in your ability to have religious freedom and the Bible in your own vernacular.

    Though there were many factors leading to the Reformation, the simple truth is Luther's act catapulted it forward and changed the course of history.

    May we Baptists be thankful for our Protestantism and be free to worship Christ in Spirit and in truth.

    "Our" Protestantism? While I might could be considered a weak "Landmarkist", the only thing I am thankful for as far as the Protestant Revolution is concerned, is that it did begin to open the doors for non-Catholics to come out of hiding.

    Do I believe that the church I pastor can trace a literal/concrete trail (or trail of blood...hehehe) all the way back, church-to-church, century-to-century, to the First Century churches? No. It gets way too "fuzzy" for a few hundred years of history to be able to make that definitive claim. But I believe that the Lord DID preserve local congregations and groups that maintained the faith of the Apostles throughout History.

    Of course- we also must recognize that the Reformation also opened the door to more angles of persecution for Christians who didn't fall in-line with the new powerful faiths. Lutherans, Anglicans, and other Protestants became nearly as bloodthirsty as the Catholics had been (and still were for centuries).
