    Hi all,

For those of you who drink diet sodas/soft drinks, there's some bad news. A recent study that's a really big and respected one links the aspartame in those diet drinks to Leukemia and Lymphoma.

I've always thought that you'd be better off to just drink a regular soda with all the sugar but this study confirms it. So I don't mean to be the teller of bad news, but it looks like you need to stop drinking them if you are.

    From your link:

The longest running study ever on the popular sweetener aspartame shows terrible results in humans. This study is the most comprehensive, long-term study ever completed on aspartame and included 77,218 women and 47,810 men in its analysis.

The results of this study showed that just one twelve-ounce can of aspartame-containing diet soda daily leads to:

    - 42 percent higher leukemia risk in men and women (pooled analysis)
    - 102 percent higher multiple myeloma risk (in men only)
    - 31 percent higher non-Hodgkin risk (in men only)

And here is the source used to reach these conclusions:
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23097267

And here is the conclusion of the article linked above:

    CONCLUSION:

Although our findings preserve the possibility of a detrimental effect of a constituent of diet soda, such as aspartame, on select cancers, the inconsistent sex effects and occurrence of an apparent cancer risk in individuals who consume regular soda do not permit the ruling out of chance as an explanation.

In other words, aspartame could not be singled out because male drinkers of both diet and regular soda had roughly the same rate of cancer risks.
