Christmas and Halloween: More Similar than We May Believe?

Paul's comments at 5, reminds me so much of what the scriptures have to say about little children. So many thoughts are tumbling around in my head right now. Protect the children. Become like little children. And what our pastor said recently, when he baptised an 8 year old. It went something like this: "She has a better understanding of our Lord, than many adults."

I hope that Paul came to that kind of understanding while he was still a child. That even though he became entangled, then trapped, in things we can't understand, he knew our Saviour.

Sometimes memories of holidays past can be bitter sweet. My mother's funeral was on Christmas eve. I'm thankful that your thoughts on October 31 return to a wonderful memory of your son. And, again, thank you for sharing it with us. Who knows, he may be right! Satan may have deceived mankind into recognizing his birth/creation, just as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour.

 

If anyone really believed in witches and ghosts and the monsters on TV, Halloween could be no fun at all. And the reason no one believes in them is because Christ has bound Satan.

Because Satan is essentially a toothless lion, kids can have fun on Halloween.

In that sense, Halloween is fun because of Christmas—well, really because of Easter, but we would have no Easter either but for Christmas

 

I wish this was true. The reality is many people do believe in ghosts and many claim to be witches and warlocks. These are people blinded by the god of this world. There are true monsters in this world and they work to do heinous things.

Halloween is a chance for some people to make fun of ghosts and monsters and act scary. It is also a chance for many true monsters to be a bit more overt concerning their nature.


If Satan is toothless then there would be no need for the warning that he is a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.

 

Thank you for sharing that story. I am deeply sorry about your son, but rejoice he is a Christian. When our kids were growing up, we kept Halloween pretty low key, unlike the stores who start promoting it two to three months early. We let them go trick or treating for a few hours and that was it.

I do not know where all of the mythical creatures assoiciated with Halloween got started. I suppose a wild imagination. Zombies, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, witches, gargolyes, gremlins, and democrats (lol) make good movies, but are not real, and have no place in reality. I know a few who actually believe in ghosts. I ask them show me in Scripture that human spirits roam the earth, which they cannot. So one can only conclude if they were real, it would be some type of demonic mimicing. Ghost Hunters is entertaining, but not real. I have no idea where the recorded voices come from, but obviously a hoax.

 

I believe in them, too, but not in the traditional sense. The fact is that sorcery has been relegated to the fringe because of the Gospel and the authority that Christianity has in the world.

That will change.

And, just to preempt the typical rebuttals, I am Calvinist, Reformed and Amillennial.

 

Election Day is scarier than Halloween, holds more broken promises than Christmas, and delivers less joy then St. Nick.
