I guess that if I had to mention just one work, it would have to be G. F. Handel's oratorio Messiah, especially the last two numbers ("Worthy is the Lamb" and "Amen").

I've got a CD with Sir Colin Davis conducting the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus that, whenever I get those BLAH feelings, I'll put it on.

When those final two choruses come on, to me, it's as though I'm being transported from "the valley of the shadow of death" right on up to the very gates of heaven itself!!

Here's a little factiod about Handel when he composed it back in 1741:

At the time he composed it in 1741, he was deathly sick, broke & facing the real possibility of being tossed into prison for not paying his debts. Yet it took Handel less than 30 days to compose Messiah --- a work that many consider to be the very crowning achievement of all English sacred choral works.

    Zara...

I will share what I play before what I listen to.

My primary instrument these days is the banjo. I play mostly "clawhammer style, as opposes to bluegrass style. Clawhammer style for me at least, enables the banjo to take on a spiritual vibe, while still being "old timey".

I also play an "old timey instrument" called the Dobro.

In addition, I play acoustic and electric guitar, usually in a contempory style.

As far as what I listen to regarding contemporary music, some of my favorites are......

Phil Keaggy, Vineyard music style praise and worship music, Edens Bridge, Traditional and contemporay Celtic music, Third Day,Big Tent Revival, John Michael Talbot, Iona, Ryan Delmore, Crhis Lizotti, Chrystal Lewis, Jim Cole, Kent Hery, Paul Baloche, Phil Driscoll..traditional "lined out" hymnody.....

I could go on and on, but I will stop there.:D

    OOPS.......

Regarding clawhammer banjo, here is an example. This guy is not me, but I play in this style most of the time....

I do listen to any positive music, not only church music. I do listen to gospel music daily before I go to work. Since am married, I can sometimes listen to love music. I also listen to music that talk about social life and social values. I keep positivity whenever choosing for the songs that I should listen to.
