    Eph 2:8-10

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Its not until one is newly Created that they are enabled to do good works that they should walk in them, like faith, are they to walk by faith ?

    Rom 4:12

And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

    2 Cor 5:7

(For we walk by faith, not by sight )

Then thats one of the good works we are Created in Christ to walk therein, this walk of Faith includes coming to Christ initially in Faith, those coming to Him Jn 6:37, for those coming to Him should come in Faith. Paul also calls it beginning in the Spirit, the Life of Faith is began in the Spirit Gal 3:2-3

2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

To have begun the Life of Faith by the Spirit, its because the Spirit gives us life so the hearing can occur which begats Faith, so Faith cometh by hearing [spiritually] Rom 10:17, and the life and walk of Faith is began Rom 8:1,4

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

For Faith without works is Dead James 2:17. Works makes Faith perfect James 2:22

Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

Thats also why Jesus told the reprobated ethnic jews Jn 8:39

They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

The Reason why Jesus says that is because all the True Children of Abraham are Created in Him unto Good Works, which begins with Faith with Good Works which makes Faith Perfect ! Which Faith is a New Creation of God Eph 2:10 !

    The Commandments of Christ !

    Jn 14:21

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

The commandments of Christ are not commands in general to all men without exception, but they are restricted only to those birthed into or translated into His Spiritual Kingdom Col 1:13

13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness [unbelief], and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

    Jn 3:3-5

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

All for whom He died shall be birthed into or translated into This Spiritual Kingdom because of His Resurrection from the dead 1 Pet 1:3

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

And they are those who shall be born of incorruptible seed 1 Pet 1:23

23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Who are His Seed Isa 53:10

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

The Seed that was in His Spiritual Loins. When Jesus says a New Commandment I give to you as here Jn 13:34, its only applicable to His Spiritual Seed, for it is that Seed that shall serve Him Ps 22:30

A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

    Jn 12:26

If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

Now who follows Him ? His Sheep do Jn 10:27

All the imperatives in the NT from the Apostles are directed only to Christ's Seed, which are born into His Spiritual Kingdom and are made subject to its Spiritual Laws.

Yes even the evangelical imperatives to Repent Acts 17:30 or to believe and Love one another 1 Jn 3:23

23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

The command to be ye reconciled to God here 2 Cor 5:20

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

These are all directives to subjects in Christ's Kingdom and who are His Seed ! For they are all the Travail of His Soul, the Glory of His Finished Work of Redemption, for all that He died, should live unto Him that did die for them 2 Cor 5:14-15

14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

You confuse "walk" of faith "with "hearing" of faith and they are not one and the same. The former is a consequence of the latter.

"hearing" of faith is inclusive in the work of being "created in Christ Jesus" prior to "good works" and the absolute proof is that "for by grace are ye saved THROUGH faith" is one inseparable act by God and the grammar proves it. They were not saved WITHOUT faith but THROUGH faith.

In the Greek text the words "are ye saved" represents what grammarians call a periphrastic construct which consists of two verbs joined in a grammatical construction. The first verb is a perfect tense verb while the second verb is a present tense verb. The perfect tense verb points back to a completed action that stands complete right up to the point of writing while the present tense verb emphasizes the continance of that completed action at the point of writing.

Your problem, as well as many others on this forum, is that this grammatical construction demands that WITHIN THAT COMPLETED ACTION "faith" occurred not before or after that action because the action itself "saved" was "THROUGH" not without, not apart from, not after, not before but "THROUGH" faith as a COMPLETED ACTION at some point in the past that now continues as a COMPLETED ACTION. Hence, faith is inseparable from quickening which in context "saved" and "created in Christ Jesus" are both synonyms for (Eph. 2:1, 6).
